N3fjp Software

Announcements page for N3FJP's Amateur Radio logging and contesting software. Thanks for visiting our amateur radio Facebook!

I became an amateur radio operator in 1976, at the age of 14 and have been enjoying many facets of amateur radio ever since. I enjoy working contests, making contacts via CW and phone, experimenting with antennas and general tuning around the bands. My lovely XYL, Kimberly, KA3SEQ, is my partner in all the contesting and software endeavors. We also share the hobby of amateur radio with our two sons, Christopher, KB3KCN, and Bradley, KB3MNE. As an extension of my Amateur Radio hobby, I became interested in computer programming. I wanted to create easy to use software for my station that performed a variety of functions for contesting and general logging. I began with a program to log contacts during November Sweepstakes and shared it with local hams. The program was so well liked, that I started to receive requests for additional software. From that first program our software library has grown to nearly 50 programs! Amateur Contact Log is an easy to use general logging program that has many great features including tracking of worked all states, counties and countries. The rest of our programs are easy to use "contest specific" applications. We are thrilled with the positive response we have received concerning our software, and we can't thank you all enough for your ideas, kind words and encouragement. Please visit www.n3fjp.com and click the links on the left when you arrive to browse through our software library, try our programs, put them through their paces and see what you think. We hope that you enjoy these programs, and if you find them useful, please tell a friend!

Hi All,

Just a reminder that we only have 22 days left until Field Day! We want to be sure that you and your club are all set with the following reminders and information...

22 Days until ARRL Field Day!

As we approach Field Day weekend, groups from all over the continent are making plans and preparations, getting equipment, generators, food, rigs, antennas and computers together, coordinating operating schedules and all the little things that make Field Day go. In many cases they will be on the air for many hours, striving to both show off our amazing hobby of Amateur Radio and turn in a competitive score. It is a huge amount of fun and a heck of a lot of work! Hopefully you will be attending a Field Day site this year, but if you can't make it out, please be sure to help reward their great efforts by providing plenty of QSOs for their logs!

Find a Club!

If you aren't already part of a group and would like to be, please reach out to your local club. It's likely they will be thrilled to have you participate with them! You can find clubs participating in Field Day in your area here:

https://www.arrl.org/field-day-locator

Operate from Home!

Even if you aren't a contester and you only have an hour to spare from home, please fire up your rig and give as many stations as you can a contact. Everyone you call will really appreciate your QSO and it will make their Field Day that much more enjoyable! In addition, you might be able to pick up a few more states towards your Worked All States Award.

Quick Start Video!

You will find a quick start video for using our N3FJP Field Day log here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJEIXuoKWqc

And our Field Day logging software here:

https://www.n3fjp.com/fieldday.html

Find your Registration!

Don't wait for Field Day morning to realize you can't find your registration information! Please check now! If you can't find your Field Day password, please go ahead and retrieve it here:

https://juliet.affirmatech.com/passwords

Test your Network!

If you plan to use a network for Field Day and haven't already done so, it's time to get all the PCs you'll be using together and make sure your network is all set. Complete details on networking our Field Day software using both File Share and TCP methods are here:

https://www.n3fjp.com/help/networkinghelp.html

Please take a little time well before Field Day, get your PCs together and your network up and running. As always, problems easily solved in a relaxed atmosphere can seem insurmountable when the clock is ticking!

HamDash!

Enjoy tracking how your Field Day is going, even when you are away from the site, as well as how your group is doing collectively on HamDash!

As always, we are really looking forward to working you on Field Day weekend!!!

Hi All,

CQ WPX CW is this weekend! The exchange is simply RST plus a progressive serial number (which our logging software tracks for you). The first contact would be 5NN 001, the second contact would be 5NN 002 and so on.

The twist with CQ WPX is that multipliers aren't entities, but rather prefixes, so AG4, KA3, KC3, KE3, NE3, WC3, N3, K3, WK3, W3 etc. are all multipliers. If you have an unusual prefix, you will be particularly sought after!

The contest starts 0:00 UTC Saturday (8:00 PM EDT Friday) and runs for 48 hours. The complete rules are here:

https://www.cqwpx.com/rules.htm

And our software for this contest is here:

https://www.n3fjp.com/cqwpx.html

And be sure to upload and follow along on HamDash:

https://hamdash.affirmatech.com/

For me it is a busy weekend ahead and I won't be able to bring a full effort this time, but I hope to grab an hour or two in the contest chair for whatever time I can!

I hope to work you!

Enjoy!

Hi All,

As the winter contest season winds down, this weekend's CQ WPX SSB contest is the last major contest to include SSB for a good while, so let's make the most of it!

New folks, please join in with us! CQ WPX is really cool! Everyone can work everyone for points and multipliers, so you don't need a robust DX station to make a lot of Qs. In addition to DX, there will be plenty of stateside stations to work too! It's a great way to practice working with higher run rates!

If you are strategizing to maximize your score, keep the QSO point rules in mind:

1. Contacts between stations on different continents are worth three (3) points on 28, 21, and 14 MHz and six (6) points on 7, 3.5, and 1.8 MHz.

2. Contacts between stations on the same continent, but different countries, are worth one (1) point on 28, 21, and 14 MHz and two (2) points on 7, 3.5, and 1.8 MHz. Exception: For North American stations only—contacts between stations within the North American boundaries (both stations must be located in North America) are worth two (2) points on 28, 21, and 14 MHz and four (4) points on 7, 3.5, and 1.8 MHz.

3. Contacts between stations in the same country are worth 1 point regardless of band.

Low band, DX Qs are worth the most points, so don't neglect Europe on 40 meters! While USA to USA Qs are only worth one point, there are a LOT of USA multipliers to collect, that are just as important as QSO points. They will bare fruit as the higher point Qs make it into your log throughout the weekend. You'll find the complete rules and QSO points here:

https://www.cqwpx.com/rules.htm

And the logging software for this contest here:

https://www.n3fjp.com/cqwpx.html

Don't forget to click Settings > Setup and select SSB! Your pre contest checklist is here:

https://www.n3fjp.com/help/contestchecklist.html

Make sure you enable and follow your progress on our HamDash leaderboard!

Hi All,

The ARRL DX SSB contest kicks off at 0:00 UTC Saturday and runs for 48 hours. This contest is one of the biggest and is especially good, because all the DX has to work North American stations. In other words, the world will be calling us!!

Multipliers are by band, so work as many stations on as many bands as you can. The more DX entities you can work on each band, the quicker your score will grow, but don't just chase multipliers. It is the combination of mults AND QSO points that grows your score exponentially! If you are having trouble working a busy station, move on! You will likely hear him again later when he is not so busy.

You'll find the complete rules here:
http://www.arrl.org/arrl-dx

And the logging software here:
https://www.n3fjp.com/intdx.html

Please review this checklist before the contest starts:
https://www.n3fjp.com/help/contestchecklist.html

You will likely want to click and pounce for this contest. Don't forget that you can display the Band Map as detailed here:
https://www.n3fjp.com/help/bandmaphelp.html

Also, you can click Settings > DX Spotting > Jump to Next Spot on Entry so that as soon as you enter one Q, you are on the next!

And be sure to upload and follow along on HamDash!
https://hamdash.affirmatech.com/

Lord willing, I hope to get cranked up at the crack of dawn on Saturday and jump in the fray!

Enjoy!
