You ever blink and then realize--holy heck...that was a lot longer than it felt in real life?

12/02/2020

Friends, Romans, countrymens, if I may offer you one word of advice to carry you through this week it is this:

Avoid leftover chicken tacos from your work's breakroom table like the plague.

Particularly *during* a plague...err...pandemic.

Food poisoning--complete with high fever, hallucination half-dreams, and joints apparently replaced by hot coals--during a pandemic?

I'd rank it up there with getting your face gnawed on by badgers, but during a zombie badger epidemic. Are they just regular angry badgers, or am I a zombie now? (Side note--If you get chewed on by a zombie badger, do you turn into a zombie human? Or do you get badger-like undead qualities?)

The good news is, test results are back and negative. (Well, for COVID, anyway. Not for zombie badgeritis of the face, but I'm pretty sure they don't test for that yet.)

Bad news is, I spent a lot of shop work time this weekend puking and then slept through Cyber Monday. Good times.

tl;dr: NEVER. EAT. LEFTOVER. CHICKEN. FROM. YOUR. WORK. BREAKROOM. TABLE. EVER. I'd make it a sticker design, but it's a pretty specific one and would probably have an audience of one. ;)

Love to all y'all, I'm headed to the shop.
Jo :)

P.S. May your high points of this week bring you more joy than the ability to keep down a plain potato did for me--that was A LOT OF FREAKING JOY.

Shop updates! (Well, actually, Jo updates, but that impacts the shop.)

2020 has been a really tough year. When I left my day job back in April due to COVID concerns, I had no idea it'd take until NOVEMBER to get another one. Applying for jobs over and over? Time consuming and sucky.

For a while, I laser focused on face masks as a distraction for [vaguely points at 2020], but over time, as I'm sure a lot of you have experienced, it all caught up to me.

It goes without saying, I didn't set out with this business to be a one-woman face mask manufacturer. While it's been rewarding, it also took away from the true spirit of why I started this business in the first place. The burnout was and is real. And being the only person in a shop can be very lonely.

Some of you have experienced significant delays in getting orders, and that's on me. I will focus on getting those taken care of--WHILE refocusing on the things that make So-Hi-Do what it is in the first place. In all its snarky, joyful, loving, custom, experimental forms.

I'll be navigating the shop while also navigating a full-time job that is impacted by the holiday shopping season. I'd say 'be aware of that', but honestly, I've been crap on shipping deadlines lately, so it's probably going to be an improvement. XD

I am so thrilled to be full-time employed and around people again. I have a few days off from said job this week and I'll be spending them in the shop Getting S**t Done. Ooooooh...I might even wear my merit badge sticker while I do it.

Love to all y'all, and stay safe out there--I've got four friends (plus one of their kiddos) in the past two weeks who've tested positive.

Care for others, care for yourself, be good peeps.

Jo :)

I’ve been experimenting in between working on orders this week, and have been able to figure out custom water resistant zipper pouches! Still WIP, but I’m proud of this little thing.

Day 5: Blade. Since starting Inktober, I’ve learned there are apparently some problematic elements in its history. This puts me in a weird spot, since I’m actually finding this to be a good exercise. I will think and research on it.

I am already behind on Inktober. Gah. Here’s bulky, and believe me, yes, this was inspired by kiddo Jo.
