• The CACRC is committed to complying with all legal and other requirements. Our business is part of the small niche of electronic recyclers in the country that are classified as non-profit refurbishers, currently a little over 2% of the electronic recycling industry. E-Refurbishers like the CACRC triage incoming equipment and place as much as possible into the reuse market, community reuse programs, and disaster relief programs. The CACRC is able to refurbish for reuse the working equipment that comes into our various programs and recycle the rest using qualified vendors in the country (www.cacrc.com). Over the next 18 months the CACRC refurbished and donated free of charge 3500 computers to schools, non-profits and individuals impacted by Katrina and Rita. Last week, CACRC celebrated Digital Inclusion Week with the theme of CELEBRATE, ENGAGE, EMPOWER.

💻 Monday: We welcomed visitors for a sneak peek of our new space and shared our vision for serving the community.

💻 Tuesday: We had the privilege of donating Chromebooks to St. Francis Xavier Catholic School, the first and oldest African American Catholic school in the Diocese of Baton Rouge, founded in 1920.

☕ Wednesday: We hosted Coffee & Conversation with community leaders, learning how digital access impacts the people and communities they serve.

🤝 Thursday: Our Digital Inclusion Roundtable brought together organizations serving everyone from individuals reentering society to those experiencing homelessness, refugees, and immigrants. Different missions, but one common need: ACCESS!

💜 Friday: The most special day of all. We celebrated our very own Outreach Coordinator, Robyn Rizzi, with a benefit lunch as she prepares for her battle with cancer.

Digital Inclusion isn’t just about computer ownership. It’s affordable computer access, internet connection, digital skills, and technical support. We see that our community faces many barriers and when they do not have adequate digital access it makes those barriers more difficult to overcome. Providing access is providing opportunity.

Our Executive Director, Michael Rachal, spoke candidly this morning at our Coffee & Connect about his vision of our Community Connectivity Hub here in Baton Rouge and beyond.

We are so excited that we our hub is finished and we are able to bring the community into our space. This project is really special to us all.

A number, and then what sits underneath it.

In 2026, we have donated nearly 950 computers across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas, through partnerships with local and national nonprofits, universities, and community organizations.

That is the number. Here is the part a number cannot hold.

A computer is not a piece of technology to the person receiving it.

It is homework that finally gets finished.

It is a remote job that was never realistic before.

It is a telehealth appointment that does not need a drive across the parish.

It is banking that does not depend on somebody else's screen.

Nine hundred and fifty times over, that is what left this building in 2026. Each one of them went to a person with a name, a week, and something they were trying to get done.

We do not lose sight of that. Each device we refurbish, donate, or sell lands with somebody real.

Which is the whole reason we say it the way we say it.

Recycle with Purpose. Connect with Impact.

Last call to join us for Digital Inclusion Week at CACRC!

We have two opportunities this week to connect, collaborate, and talk about what digital inclusion can look like in our community.

Coffee & Connections
Wednesday, October 7 | 8:30–10:00 AM
Grab some coffee, meet other community partners, hear the vision for our Community Connectivity Hub, and start imagining what could happen in this space through collaboration.

Digital Inclusion Roundtable
Thursday, October 8 | 9:00–10:30 AM
We’ll dig deeper into the barriers our communities are facing and talk about how access to technology, connectivity, digital skills, and support can help remove those barriers. Most importantly, we’ll talk about where we can work together to create practical solutions.

If you work with a nonprofit, school, business, government agency, or community organization, we would love to have your voice at the table.

Our communities are strongest when the people doing the work are connected, sharing ideas, resources, and solutions.

Nicole ran a children's home in Honduras.

A nutrition program for kids. Humanitarian aid. Then teaching, then community liaison work. Her whole career has been spent within arm's reach of people.

So when our executive director floated the idea of her working here, her honest reaction was the same as most people.

Where are the people in this? It is a place that recycles and refurbishes computers.

That question is the reason this post exists. If someone who spent years running a children's home did not see it straight away, nobody else should feel slow for missing it either.

Here is what changed her mind.

She found out who is standing on the other side of a device. Foster children. Domestic violence shelters. Reentry programs. Afterschool programs. Organizations supporting single parents. And a long list beyond that.

It stopped being a recycling story and started being a stability story.

A computer is not just a piece of technology. It is the thing that turns stability, opportunity, and hope from ideas into something a person can actually reach.

It started as a joke, apparently. A year later, she is still here, and the people on the other end of this work are never lost on any of us.

If you have ever wondered the same thing she did, come see us. It makes more sense in person.
