Okay, here's another great article from BlueScreen Computer. I followed his instructions and it was easy to switch back to classic Office 365 - once you new you had to go to 'cancel' first. Shame on you Microsoft. In you case you did not know Microsoft apparently 'upgraded' everyone's Office 365 by adding Copilot, without telling you anything more than that they were increasing prices for your subscription. I have no desire to use a sub-standard Copilot, especially when I already pay OpenAI $20 a month directly.
If you pay a recurring fee for Microsoft 365, I have important news for you. I am sorry, but prepare to be angry:
Recently, I mentioned that 365 pricing had increased by $30/yr. Microsoft 365 Personal jumped from $70 to $100, and the MS 365 Family plan grew from $100 to $130. But in doing so, we were not told that the old plans and pricepoints were still there. Microsoft is again guilty of the sin called Lying Through Omission.
There are actually 4 different plans for Microsoft 365 now:
Microsoft 365 Personal for $100/yr
Microsoft 365 Family for $130/yr
Microsoft 365 Personal Classic for $70/yr
Microsoft 365 Family Classic for $100/yr
The big difference? Classic plans do NOT have Copilot and AI built into them. That's it. Microsoft silently upgraded everyone and raised their prices without permission to pay for the Copilot and genAI that no one asked for.
The big cover-up? You cannot see these Classic plans until you go to cancel your subscription. They are completely hidden from the Microsoft website, and only shown if you log in and have an active 365 subscription, and you click the Cancel button. This is the darkest of patterns and I hope that legal consequences will befall Microsoft... some day.
For now, if you want to go back to your old 365 pricing, here are the steps to do so: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/switching-to-microsoft-365-personal-and-family-classic-plans-58342e83-38e7-4cda-b63b-88604a8fb7ef
If you want to become a classic 365 subscriber, you must sign-up for one of the new expensive plans, and then immediately cancel it to find the option for a classic plan!
