Uptown Press has printed on many substrates but printing on Bullet Casings is probably the oddest but most interesting. Felipe came to our shop with his lasted endeavor wanting us to print Photos of Ukraine´s Ballerinas on 6 ft x 6 ft board covered with Bullet shell casings. We printed on a Wednesday and it was shipped to Paris on Friday. Photos show the piece on display in Paris. Felipe Jácome is a photographer born in Ecuador. After finishing his studies at the London School of Economics, his work has focused on issues of human mobility and human rights. In 2010 he won the Young Reporter Competition of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Jacome’s photos have appeared in publications such as National Geographic, The Washington Post, Foreign Policy Magazine, The Guardian, Vice Magazine, and CNN. Jacome’s work has been exhibited in London, Geneva, Amsterdam, Quito, La Paz and Washington DC. In 2019 he was selected by World Press Photo for the 6x6 Global Talent Award for South America.

We are proud to share that Al Maddox, a longtime friend and colleague of Uptown Press, won the first Nick Mancini Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Printing Industry.

"The Nick Mancini Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Printing Industry.
Nick Mancini, a truly unique individual who made every stranger into a friend. We miss his passion energy and love of life. EIP was always one of his favorite events and he worked so hard as a member of the committee to make it a success. Tragically, Nick left us suddenly and way too soon. To honor is his memory, we have introduced an award in his name.

AL MADDOX is a gentleman who has given so much to his family, his community, his business, to our industry and last, but not least, our association. Al and his family are trailblazers that knocked down many barriers always with dignity and class. His dad was the first African American to own a printing company in Baltimore after a career at the Afro-American newspaper. Our recipient did a little trailblazing of his own when he was elected to two terms as Chairman of the Board of PGAMA. The first African American to be elected. He, much like Nick Mancini, is a force of nature and he too has never met a stranger who didn’t become a friend."
