This Memorial Day, we honor Spc. Hilda I. Clayton -- a U.S. Army Visual Information Specialist and Combat Camera photographer who gave her life documenting a mission in Afghanistan. 🎖️

Clayton served with the historic 55th Signal Company (Combat Camera), a military unit responsible for capturing photo and video documentation in active combat zones. In her honor, the Department of Defense renamed its annual “Best Combat Camera” competition to the “Spc. Hilda I. Clayton Best Combat Camera Competition" in 2014.

Her courage behind the lens reminds us that storytelling in service of our nation is never without sacrifice.

At CHESA, we are privileged to support the projects that protect and serve our country every day. To the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, we honor you today.

If your broadcast or production facility is running on aging SDI infrastructure, you are not alone!

Many federal agencies, sports organizations, and enterprise media operations are facing the same decision HHS once faced... continue patching legacy systems, or build a foundation designed for the next decade? 🛰️📺

So, how did CHESA help? We designed, staged, and deployed a complete SMPTE ST 2110 broadcast infrastructure for one of the largest federal communications operations in Washington, D.C.

CHESSIE’s been spending a little too much time with Vegas Vic ahead of NAB…

And it’s starting to show.

We’re slightly concerned about the wardrobe—but very confident in what we’re bringing to the table.

CHESA is heading to NAB with solutions that are far more disciplined than our mascot.

We start with discovery and consulting—then carry it through design, development, deployment, and ongoing support and partnership. End-to-end, built for media workflows that actually scale.

Come say hi. We’ll handle the workflows—CHESSIE will handle…whatever this is.

Everyone wants to talk about SMPTE 2110. Fewer people want to talk about what it actually takes to make it work.

This month, we hosted DCMUG for an inside look at Monumental Sports—and the real conversation wasn’t about technology. It was about people, process, and the hard truths behind modern broadcast transformation.

From IP infrastructure and monitoring to cybersecurity and workforce evolution, the discussion pulled no punches.

If you’re navigating the shift from SDI to IP (or even questioning if you should), this is worth your time.

Final panel from our CHESA Fest 2026 Vendor Panel Series.

What happens when AI enters the broadcast control room?

For decades, live production has operated on a simple principle:

Humans make the decisions.

A director chooses the shot.

An operator triggers graphics.

An audio engineer adjusts the mix.

Infrastructure simply executes those decisions.

But that model is beginning to evolve.

At CHESA Fest 2026, Vendor Panel 4 explored a question many broadcasters are now facing:

Should AI remain an advisory tool inside production systems — or should it be allowed to act inside the control loop during a live broadcast?

The discussion brought together leaders from across the live production ecosystem:

• Chuck Davidson — LiveU
• Steve Cooperman — Vizrt
• Dan Griffin — NETGEAR AV
• Kyle Phillips — AI-Media

Moderated by Jason “Pep” Pepino of CHESA.

The panel explored several key questions shaping the future of live production:

• Where AI automation actually improves broadcast workflows
• Why bounded autonomy may be the safest way to deploy AI systems
• How automation can handle repetitive production tasks while humans retain authority
• And perhaps most importantly — who is responsible when AI gets it wrong during a live broadcast

As one panelist put it:

“You can’t blame the machine. You have to blame the person who sets the parameters around the machine.”

AI is already entering the signal chain in broadcast environments.

The real debate now is how much authority we should give it.

We captured the full conversation and insights from the panel in the latest CHESA Fest article.

Thanks again to the panelists for contributing their expertise to a thoughtful and candid discussion.

Part of our CHESA Fest 2026 Vendor Panel Series.

As automation and AI move deeper into media workflows, a bigger question is starting to emerge:

Where does human judgment still matter?

For years, automation in media operations meant executing predefined steps — transcodes, QC checks, asset movement, and delivery pipelines.

But today’s systems are doing more than executing instructions.

They’re beginning to evaluate conditions, suggest actions, and in some cases make operational decisions.

At CHESA Fest 2026, Vendor Panel 3 explored what happens as media pipelines become increasingly autonomous.

The panel brought together experts from across the media technology ecosystem:

• Erik Zindulka — Telestream
• Sarah Semlear — Hiscale
• Greg Holick — Helmut
• Dave Helmly — Adobe
• Scott Eik — Scale Logic
• Jason Whetstone — CHESA

Moderated by Felix Coats of CHESA.

The discussion surfaced several key questions:

• How much of media operations could realistically be automated by 2030
• Why accountability remains one of the biggest barriers to full automation
• The growing role of AI-assisted scripting and low-code workflow design
• Why human oversight may become more important as systems get smarter

One panelist summarized the dilemma perfectly:

“A computer cannot be held accountable. Therefore it cannot make a management decision.”

Automation will continue to accelerate media workflows.

That part is certain.

The real question is whether decision-making authority ultimately stays human — or gradually becomes encoded into software.

We captured the full discussion and insights from the panel in a new CHESA Fest article.

Thanks again to the panelists for contributing their expertise to a thoughtful and candid discussion.
