Customers often come in to the shop with virus and malware problems and ask if its ok to have multiple anti-virus programs installed. An article by Chron's Ashley Poland offers great info. The following quote from that article sums it up:

"The urge to run more than one anti-virus program is understandable. No anti-virus program catches 100 percent of malware threats; having two seems like it would increase your protection. However, running two anti-virus programs can cause more problems on your computer than some malware. If you're in the market for an anti-virus, it's best to pick one really good one rather than trying to double-up on protection.

Anti-virus programs work by detecting and stopping potential problems -- including infected files and malicious programs. If you have two anti-virus programs running in tandem, they may detect each other's background processes and cancel each other out. In the worst case scenario, having two anti-virus programs running at once can cause system instability and crashes."
