A website can be beautiful and still make people hesitate.
Because good web design isn’t just visual. It’s behavioral.
When someone lands on your site, they’re quickly trying to figure out:
What do you do?
Is this meant for someone like me?
Can I trust you?
What should I do next?
If they have to work too hard to find those answers, even a beautifully designed website can lose them.
That’s why clear messaging, focused calls to action, strong trust signals, and where order information appears on the page matter so much. Good design should guide attention and make decision-making easier.
Squarespace recently published an article on why some good-looking websites still don’t convert, and it touches on many of the same things I consider when I design a site.
Because the goal isn’t just to make a website look good.
It’s to make it easier for the right person to understand what they’re seeing, feel confident they’re in the right place, and know where to go next.
