10 Common Mistakes Made as a Trade Show Exhibitor.

Don’t get in the way of your own success!

1) Underselling your company with bad graphics: All too often I’ve seen companies represent themselves at trade shows with a patchwork of a “display.” I’ve seen vinyl banners wrapped around foam board, dented or dinged up displays, and a variety of hodgepodge displays. Represent your company in the best light possible. A less-than-professional appearance does not give your prospect confidence in you or your products and services. This type of display will send prospects running to the competition. Example: Choose a fabric graphic over a vinyl banner.

Outdoor Event? Be Effective!

Summer is almost here, and that means picnics, festivals, and other outdoor community events are taking place in your neighborhood. Are you ready to exhibit in the great outdoors?

It’s easier than you think!

Advertising at local outdoor events can be a lot of fun, and can get a lot of attention with the right approach. Unlike trade shows, most outdoor events are centered around community, not businesses. But that certainly doesn’t mean businesses are excluded! In fact, businesses are generally the sponsors of the event! So, even though few attendees are planning on checking out the business booths, don’t forget it’s still a great way to keep your company in front of people.

If you don’t have an event tent or canopy to stand under, get one. It’s hot weather in the summer, and people LOVE shade. The biggest mistake you can make with a tent is to keep people out of it. Let them linger under your free shade, and get to know them in the meantime.

Offer SWAG. Everyone expects it, so just do it. Giveaways are a must at outdoor events. Just make sure your name is all over them.

Be friendly, outgoing, and courteous. Don’t sell – ask questions. Get to know your clientele and build relationships so you’ll both remember each other.

Exhibit at the right events. There’s no point in showing up at a livestock auction if you’re a bike shop. Look for events that fit your business.

Get out there, get to know your community, and have some fun! You might be surprised what opportunities it creates. Happy marketing!
