The digital torch has been passed! Bainbridge Computer Services is back in business. My name is Kurt Hicklin and I'm picking up where Bob Haslanger left off. He's very graciously passed his domain and business name to me and I'm grateful to carry on the legacy he started. I've got 22 years of IT experience and am excited to serve the community of Bainbridge Island.

After more than 30 years of serving Bainbridge and surrounding communities with computer and technology consulting, Bob Haslanger, owner of Bainbridge Computer Services (BCS) is retiring. Keating Consulting Service (KCS) has agreed to work with Bob to provide IT services to BCS regional clients. During the months of October and November, we will meet with clients during a transition period and execute new service agreements. Charles Keating, president of KCS, welcomes working with BCS clients and will work towards a smooth transition. He can be reached at (360) 697-9009 and [email protected]. KCS uses a hybrid managed service model which combines proactive IT maintenance services to maintain safe and efficient operations in addition to on call IT support. We expect to customize these services as needed for individual clients to maintain the high standards of service.

Bainbridge Computer Services Receives 2021 Best of Bainbridge Island Award

Bainbridge Island Award Program Honors the Achievement

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND June 6, 2021 -- Bainbridge Computer Services has been selected for the 2021 Best of Bainbridge Island Award in the Consumer Electronics category by the Bainbridge Island Award Program.

Each year, the Bainbridge Island Award Program identifies companies that we believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and our community. These exceptional companies help make the Bainbridge Island area a great place to live, work and play.

Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2021 Bainbridge Island Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the Bainbridge Island Award Program and data provided by third parties.

Technology businesses Dawn and I have owned have been donating professional services to nonprofits since 1986. Most are based on Bainbridge Island but we have supported nonprofits with staff located throughout the state of Washington, five other states, and six other countries. in 2019, the value of services we donated was equal to 15% of the gross income of our business. We are honored to be recognized but we are more honored that we have been given the opportunity to work with organizations that do such good work in their communities and that we are able to contribute to their missions.

Another scam warning: Big tech companies do not put a popup on your screen that tells you your computer is infected and you must call the number on the screen, not Microsoft, not Apple, not Facebook, not Google. There is nothing wrong with your computer. It’s a faux computer support web page that’s been inserted. Into your browser session by scammers. Closing the browser will get rid of it. If you can’t close the browser, turn off your computer and turn it back on again. DO NOT CALL THE PHONE NUMBER. Do not let anyone you don’t know remotely access your computer, especially if someone is telling you your computer is infected.
Your computer doesn’t tell anyone, anywhere that it is infected. If you suspect your computer is infected, call a local IT support professional. Don’t respond to a phone call or a popup that’s trying to scare you into making the call and allowing someone to connect to your computer remotely.
In one of the more recent scams the unwary computer user is told they need a firewall service to protect them. They want to connect to your computer to remove spyware and viruses and install the firewall service. The prices they quote can be as high as $800. If you fall for the scam, they will ask for a credit card number. When you give them the first credit card information they will say that it has been compromised and they need another card. They will repeat that line if they suspect you have more credit cards.
Please don’t believe any popups on your computer that want you to call a so-called support phone number. Don’t get scammed.

Now is a good time tor remind everyone that Microsoft isn’t going to call you. They don’t do that. They don’t have your credit card. They’re not going to charge you $299 for a support contract. You do not have to press 1 to speak to a representative. It’s a scam.
I get called several times a day from a phone number that says Vashon, WA. It ends in 2729. It’s a scam robo call trying to scare me into talking to one of the scammers who is going to tell me that I’ve signed up for support and my card is going to be automatically charged. Of course the scammer is then going to want me to confirm my credit card number and other personal information (PI).
I listen to these people to find out what the angle is today. They are very persuasive. The rewards are big for them. They are pros at scamming unwary people out of their money and their PI. Don’t fall for the scam.
