Life’s Woes
For almost all of us life’s a complexity or is not?
We could have it all— all our expenses paid, live a lavish comfortable lifestyle of friends, merriment and just an all around good time. Would we truly be happy, would we truly be content or would life have us wanting more. In the 1987 movie Less Than Zero friends Clay, Julian and Blair our dealing with life and finding contentment. Clay who has just come back from college is dealing with his former girlfriend Blair and his best friend Julian dating as well as their addiction to Co***ne.
In this modern day drama we see societies pressures placed upon teens trying to fit in amongst life’s conditions. Julian dependent upon Co***ne, Blair dependent upon Julian for both affection as well as Co***ne, and Clay trying to help both his ex girlfriend Blair and his best friend Julian overcome their addiction to Co***ne. In the end the group takes a trip across the highways and byways of life trying to finally get Julian off of his addiction to Co***ne. In the end the two Clay and Blair are left with Julian who overdosed from a bad botch of drugs from his supplier that was getting even with Julian for debits he was unwilling to pay for his habit. True contentment is internal, it’s sacrifical! It’s where one learns to be content with life. Sure money, good times, and a beautiful girl/boyfriend by your side seems to be the completeness to that lacking of fulfillment in your life but there’s always more. The next fifty or sixty or perhaps fseventy years of life are worth living rather than throwing it away on temporal joy.
For most people who live they live for the moment. Have you ever considered what the next 70 years of your life could bring about? Friends, family as well as triumphs and failures are what loom on each of our horizons. For Julian’s Blair I believe their escape from the reality of getting both older and dealing with the perplexity of life’s responsibilities was found in Co***ne for it gives a Euphoria a release where you believe no matters what’s happening bad or good everything’s going to workout in the end. Well, this is not always the case. Actor River Phoenix overdosed from drugs in 1991 just outside of the club the Viper Room. The music artist Prince passed away in 2016 from a Fenxanyol overdose. And still yet, recovering addict and former actor Matthew Perry died of drugs in 2023. Each of us is dealing with a problem in life. For some we seek help for others they use drugs and suffer death, and still, for some they deal with life’s problems by either rationali thinking or praying to our Creator in knowing that He already has all the answers.
Julian and Blair in the storyline lived as life were a Sprint. They were both trying to suck as much out of life that they could as quick as possible for they could not bear with dealing with tomorrow. On the other hand Clay viewed his life as s Marathon. He was making plans for his future. He was always trying to see a life with Blair despite her addiction and fascination with Julian. No matter if we are an addict or clean having never used drugs we are all still living. And this is the very difficulty with life. For the most part a great deal of us are so caught up in the moment that we are too busy to stop and smell the Roses. Enjoy life for it goes by so quick. A man is estimated to live 74 years a woman 80 years old. This is but a mere 27,400 days for a man and 29791 days for a woman or 657,400 hours or in reality 2,365,360,000 seconds to live out your life seeing your children loving your father and mother dealing with life’s issues in either saying good bye to relative, friends and associates who have either moved away or passed on from this life. Don’t take one second of your life for granted….cherish every moment you have for once it’s gone you are never, ever getting it back.
Life is an experience to be enjoyed with family, friends and whomever else you know. Life is a time of reflection to humbly pray to God, Jesus Christ……It’s where we are honest with God and our self. It’s where we kneel and say; “I need your help. I am lost, and I have no idea what I am doing.”
Life is to be enjoyed, life is to be cherished with not just yourself but with others. Above all else, life is an experience where you have communion with your Spiritual Father Abba Adonai Aniyah Yahweh Yahuwah Elohim Jesus Christ.
Amen
