To all businesses and individuals alike. Be proactive - Read FBI warning. When in question, reach out for clarification. If in doubt, DON'T proceed by clicking any links or installing downloads or peripherals on to your computer.

Hackers from the FIN7 cybercriminal group have been targeting various businesses with malicious USB‌ devices acting as a keyboard when plugged into a computer. Injected commands download and execute a JavaScript backdoor associated with this actor.

IT Storm precautions:

With Florence right around the corner, Richardson Central wants to make sure you have a plan to take care of your IT equipment.

Things to consider:

· If you have a calendar and/or scheduling software that drives your business, make sure you print this out for the next week or two. Having a hard copy is always important in times like this.

· Prepare a list of Contacts/Clients, etc. with phone numbers in case you need to contact them.

· Make sure sure your systems are backed up and PC’s, Servers, Network Equipment, etc. are turned off. Be aware that all backups, including those with Cloud backup services, if you have them, will not take place if the servers are turned off early.

· Unplugging devices is optional but could help prevent a power surge damage to the equipment. All UPS(Battery backups) will need to be powered off and unplugged as well. This will prevent the the batteries from draining if the power is lost and it will prevent power surge damage.
