I've warned y'all numerous times about scam phone calls, right? If you receive a call 'out of the blue' about your computer being infected or whatever, it's likely fake and you should just hang up and NEVER allow a stranger to gain remote access to your computer - NEVER EVER EVER!!

But what about when you're shopping? Is that new gadget really that cheap? Can I really get a riding lawnmower for $299???
Probably not. Well, actually, definitely not.

Here's a short guide to help you to identify shopping sites to avoid. Be safe out there!

Reports from Experian, the consumer credit reporting agency, show that online shopping fraud is on the rise! Here's how to spot the fakes, and protect yourself and your money when shopping online. ***CRITICAL NOTICE***

Do you own and use a Western Digital MyBook Live or Live Duo external network storage drive? If so, disconnect it from your network IMMEDIATELY! There is currently a risk of data loss if you keep it connected. Read more about this issue here:

https://community.wd.com/t/action-required-on-my-book-live-and-my-book-live-duo/268147

This should not affect the standard Western Digital MyBook external hard drives that do not connect directly to the network, however, it may still be a good idea to keep them disconnected for a while, as well.

Western Digital has determined that some My Book Live devices are being compromised by malicious software. In some cases, this compromise has led to a factory reset that appears to erase all data on the device. The My Book Live device received its final firmware update in 2015. We understand that ou...

It really is this simple. You give seemingly harmless information in an effort to 'belong' and 'be friendly' online, but in reality you're giving away the answers to what are most likely your security questions that are used to unlock your accounts should you forget your password. Unscrupulous bad actors then easily 'hack' your account and wreak untold havoc.

Keep your personal information PERSONAL! If you've ever answered any of these 'surveys', then, as much as possible, go back into your Facebook history and delete your responses. You and your bank accounts will be glad you did.

Are you making it easier for a hacker to access your personal accounts?

If you've ever responded to the seemingly innocuous posts on Facebook asking about your first pet, first car, street you grew up on, etc., then you have quite possibly given 'the world' the answers to Security Questions you've entered on other sites to facilitate password recovery. These are common questions used to help you in case you forget a password.

Facebook is a great medium to keep in contact with friends and family, but one must use great caution when sharing ANY information at all. This goes for vacation dates, a night out, or schedules for your child's soccer or baseball games. Thieves can easily see this and plan a burglary of your home while you're away enjoying yourself elsewhere.

Your personal data is personal. Protect it.

Wow, it's been a while since I posted anything here, but this is as important and relevant (like many other things) as I've ever seen.

Be very careful of the links you click on. Hovering over a link can often reveal the actual site's address and if it doesn't match what you expect, don't click. This is a simple way to keep you and your computer safe from harm. Damaging attachments and drive-by website infections can just ruin your whole day!

When in doubt, don't click. If you think it's legitimate, DON'T CLICK, but go straight to the website by typing the web address into your favorite browser and get your answers from there.

As always, we're here to answer any questions you may have. Stay safe out there!

Apparently, we need to prepare for these SCAM phone calls:

‘Good morning, According to our system, you are likely to have been in close proximity to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. This means that you now need to self-isolate for 7 days and take a COVID-19 test.'
'OK. Can you tell me who that person was?'
'I'm not able to tell you that. That is confidential information.'
'Right. Um... so ....'
'But you do need to be tested within the next 72 hours. So can I just get the best mailing address so that we can send a kit to you?'
'Ok (give them some bogus address, like the local Walmart or something)'
'Thank you - and I just need to take a payment card so that we can finalize this and send the kit to you.'
'Sorry - a payment card? I thought this was all free?'
'No - I'm afraid not. There is a one-off fee of $50 for the kit and test results. Could you read off the long card number for me, please, when you're ready.'
'No - that's not right.
'I'm afraid it is. Can you give me the card number please - this is very important, and there are penalties for not complying.'

This is how scammers work. Waste as much of their time if can and you're willing and give them NO personal information at all....EVER.

Be careful out there!!!

Chances are that you've received a phone call or email saying your computer has a problem, you're owed money by the IRS, or any of a myriad of things where someone owes you money. Who wouldn't want to get more money, right?!?!

Chances also are very, very good that it's a scam. Payment by Gift Cards is a dead giveaway that it's not legitimate. I can't stress enough to NEVER let a 'cold caller' remote into your computer. NEVER! The tactics used are getting more and more complex and intricate in order to take your hard-earned money.

Here's a link showing a wonderful group of guys that help to expose these scams. It's worth a watch! There's a second video as well (in the comments) that sheds even more light on the subject. I guarantee it's worth your time!

Stay safe out there!!!
