Terra Incognita

Terra Incognita I’ve been crafting interactive stories for 20 years. I collaborate with a variety of teams to design experiences that are smart, fun, and informative.

Terra Incognita is the design studio of Bart Marable, specializing in online, in-gallery, and mobile interactive experiences for museums and cultural institutions. Through the years I’ve been fortunate to have worked with great folks to create work we can all be proud of. Let’s work together.

It was the “shot heard round the world”.

247 years ago today, colonial militias in the towns of Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts, fought the first battles of the American Revolution. Today, just steps from where those first shots rang out, a pair of touchscreen kiosks at the Lexington Visitors Center give visitors an engaging introduction to this key moment in American history. These experiences are powered by our Storycrafter digital platform.

See how the Town of Lexington uses Storycrafter kiosks to build engaging experiences at their new Visitors Center.

Today is Veterans Day in the United States, a day we honor the service and sacrifices of our armed forces. Spirit of America is a nonprofit organization that works alongside US service members and diplomats to support their safety and success. Here is one of the many visual stories they have created with our Storycrafter platform.

Spirit of America’s mission is to support the safety and success of Americans serving abroad and the local people and partners they seek to help.

"Museums in Denmark, Slovenia and Switzerland, among others, are busy documenting the crisis in various ways, from asking citizens to keep diaries of their daily lives under lockdown to acquiring objects that represent the moment."

With photographs, field interviews and mass surveys, institutions are trying to preserve information about everyday life during the crisis for future study.

We're working with the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum on an exhibition about La Salle's lost ship La Belle. Over the last few days we've been busy photographing dozens of artifacts that will be used in the exhibition interactives, including an 800-pound cannon.
