Meet Anita James, Swishvo’s Revenue Activation Coordinator. 🤎

For providers joining Swishvo, getting started is about more than checking boxes it’s about understanding where you are, what you need, and what comes next.

That’s where Anita comes in.

With experience spanning healthcare, technology, insurance, and customer service, along with a certification in Healthcare Systems, Anita helps providers navigate the intake and activation process with clarity and confidence.

She works alongside midwives, doulas, therapists, and other care professionals to identify barriers, streamline next steps, and help position providers to successfully move toward billing.

At the center of her work is something we care deeply about at Swishvo: creating a provider experience that feels supportive, connected, and human.

Outside of Swishvo, Anita is also a proud mom who credits motherhood with strengthening the empathy, resilience, organization, and perseverance she brings to her work every day.

What the Code Means, part 2: vanishing twin syndrome.

Vanishing twin syndrome happens when a pregnancy begins with twins or more and one baby stops developing, usually early. The pregnancy continues with the surviving baby or babies.

For many parents, it is a quiet loss. There may be no funeral, no name, no word for it at work.

As of October 1, there is a code for it. Category O31.4 names a "continuing pregnancy after vanishing twin syndrome." It holds 28 codes: four trimester options (first, second, third or unspecified), each with a seventh character that says which fetus the code applies to.

Why this matters: the record can now name the loss and the ongoing pregnancy together. That gives doulas, midwives and counselors a clearer basis for the extra support these families often need. It also gives researchers a way to count what was never counted.

The care was always real. Now the paperwork can say so.

Getting providers paid accurately and compliantly takes expertise behind the scenes and Tiffany brings plenty of it.

An AAPC Certified Professional Coder with an Associate’s Degree in Business Management, Tiffany brings extensive experience in medical billing, claims management, revenue cycle efficiency, complex coding, and clinical documentation integrity.

At Swishvo, she helps us navigate the details that matter: payer guidelines, coding accuracy, compliance, claims, performance metrics, and the processes that help providers move toward successful reimbursement.

Because making holistic care covered by insurance doesn’t stop at credentialing.

The claim has to be right. The documentation has to support it. And providers deserve a team that understands how to navigate what happens next.

Tiffany brings the expertise, attention to detail, and problem-solving mindset to help us do exactly that.

Who sits with a family when there is nothing left to fix?

This is Spiritual Care Week, and this year's theme is "Healing Through Presence and Grace."

Chaplains sit with people at the hardest moments of their lives: a diagnosis, a stillbirth, a last breath, a family meeting no one wanted to have. They care for people of every faith and of no faith.

Here is something few people know. Medicare's hospice benefit requires spiritual counseling to be offered to patients and families. Outside hospice, chaplain care is rarely billed on its own. Most of it is paid from a hospital budget, a grant or a congregation's generosity.

Spiritual care is health care. That is why chaplains are among the 57+ provider types Swishvo serves. Care that matters this much should be visible, and one day, billable.

To every chaplain: thank you for your presence.

This weekend, Swishvo was honored to be part of the Birth Justice community gathering in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Our Chief of Staff, Sejal, joined birth workers and community members for a screening of the Deliver Us documentary, followed by an honest conversation about what birth justice really requires.

What stays with us: the doulas, midwives, and birth workers carrying this work are doing it with deep love and very little infrastructure. They hold families through the most sacred moments of life, yet the system still treats their care as unbillable.

That is exactly why we exist. We’re on a mission to make holistic, spiritual, and ancestral care covered by insurance. 9.59 million providers deserve a healthcare system that finally sees them.

Thank you, Amani and The God’s Rose, for creating a space where education, healing, and community could meet. It was an intimate, powerful circle, and we’re grateful to have been in it.

Welcome to the village, Raising Resilience 🤎

The Charlotte-based perinatal mental health practice, built for and by Black women, has joined Swishvo to widen the path to covered maternal mental health care for mothers across North Carolina and Washington, DC.

Black mothers deserve care that sees them, and care they don’t have to pay for out of pocket. We’re honored to walk this road together.

Meet Alexandria Simpson, Swishvo’s Lead Software Engineer. 💻✨

With 10 years of experience building and scaling full-stack applications, Alexandria is helping build the technology behind Swishvo’s mission.

As Swishvo’s engineer, she owns the platform end-to-end. From front end and back end development to database infrastructure, testing, stabilization, and helping shape our technical roadmap.

But her connection to this work goes beyond the code.

Alexandria is also a holistic homebirth mom of four, giving her a deeply personal connection to our mission of supporting holistic health practitioners and helping close gaps in maternal healthcare.

And because apparently she needed a few more things to do 😅, she’s pursuing a master’s degree to become a Registered Dietitian, enjoys SFX costume makeup, and mentors aspiring technologists through Black Girls Code and Women in Technology.
