It’s been over a week, but here’s the recap of the Prairie Center for the Arts show over Memorial Day.

Short of it : Exceeded expectations:
sales, patrons, friends, weather

Needs improvement: my health & endurance

Here’s the { } version of this post:
I’m pivoting, please support my practice.

Also update
my project 55mins | 5 x 5 - for 62/100 days made up just under 55% of my sales
So glad I started!

First thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! To everyone that came out and supported my art. And eternally grateful to my friends, and for making my set up even possible.

Long story: like most art fairs, the decision and (money $) to do this show was in February, when I still was delusional thinking, this diagnosis can’t change me and I can do it all! This was also the first show I cancelled last year (lost money) so I was determined to have a redo! I had high hopes, and figured I’d take the risk. But after radiation in January, I have severe loss of upper body strength. I’m on the mend, but it’s slow. So instead of canceling, I enlisted some friends, had a great show, but it took me days to recover. Needless to say, I haven’t signed up for any other shows this year.

Another thing obvious is I need my art income and art sanity. I do love art shows ~ meeting patrons, talking one and one about my art and process, but that’s not doable for this year.

So, fair warning, I’ll be trying other avenues more direct in the near future.

I’m extremely grateful for my art community and people that support my art. Stay tune for what’s next and ways you might be able to contribute.

62/100 - and then stop. I spent 55 minutes for 62 days in a row working on my art practice. Rekindling the dedication to my passion. I didn’t finish the 100 days, but I did reignite the flow and working new projects into my daily.

“Phoenix Moon Rising” (relief print, 5x5) will be among the work I’ll show at the 37th PRAIRIE ARTS FESTIVAL in Schaumburg - Saturday May 23 - Sunday May 24.

Being able to focus on my art again is such a blessing. Come out and visit if you are in the area.

“Teaching IT” with

Here’s a little zine I put together as a crash course to a very elusive concept - composition.

Even after 30 years of work as a designer and many years of art college, composition is still hard to explain. Things that are second-nature often are.

The instruction went well, including a bit of completing each other sentences and good examples, the group walked away with some tangible problem solving techniques.

Week 8 | 55 min - 5x5 - including the 55th day
I was running out of steam and stalling a little on a print I started. So intuitive painting to the rescue. Some of these might be done. Others will mull about when I need a bit of inspiration or get back into flow.
55 minutes daily is quite a commitment. But I’m making it happen.

Week 7 | 55 min - 5 x 5
A lot of sketching and figuring out this week.
Sometimes you have to finish things, or decide to put them on the back burner. This is one of the times I’m still trying to figure it out. But I’m still at it. Day 49. It’s hard to fit it in sometimes. For me, making my art a priority is a practice worth pursuing.
