Our Story
THE BEGINNING: Mid-City Office Systems was started on March 15th, 1952 as Mid-City Typewriter Company by Willis & Loretta Boswell and was located at 209 E. 9th St., Auburn, IN. Throughout the 50’s, Mid-City added various brands of typewriters such as Re*****on and Smith Corona to expand their line of equipment. In 1958, Mid-City added their first full time employees in the Sales & Service departments.
THE SIXTIES: Even after suffering from 2 major fires in the 60’s, Mid-City continued to grow by adding duplicators, mimeographs and Speed O Print Copiers to their line of equipment. By the end of the 60’s Mid-City had moved to 414 S. Main St., in Auburn and two of the Boswell sons, Malcolm & Michael, were working for the company part time.
THE SEVENTIES: Moving into the 70’s, Mid-City continued to grow by adding Olympia manual & electric typewriters and electronic calculators to their already diversified complement of products. During this time, Malcolm started working full time as a Service Technician and was elected as Vice President. The Boswell’s third son, Mark, also started working for the company part time. By 1976, Mid-City became one of the first authorized Canon copier dealers in the State of Indiana.
THE EIGHTIES: In the 80’s, big changes were made with Michael Boswell being elected President while Willis became Chairman of the board. In 1982, Mid-City purchased the Burgoyne Building at 138 E. 7th St. in Auburn and changed the company name to Mid-City Office Systems, Inc. to better reflect the new products offered. By 1983, Mark Boswell was elected VP and by 1984, Mid-City expanded into selling and servicing computers to homes and businesses making them one of the very first computer dealers in Northeast Indiana.
