"Intoxicado." A word uttered by an unconscious patient's mother and girlfriend as they fruitlessly tried to relay the symptoms of his illness to the ED doctors. But without an interpreter, stressed doctors made the mistake of thinking this word meant 'intoxicated' and began treating the patient for a drug overdose. 36 hours into treatment, doctors realized the real issue- the patient had had a brain aneurysm - but due to the delayed diagnosis, he was left quadriplegic.
