Though RyeType closed its doors effective December 31, 2018, we still enjoy doing volunteer work for organizations we support. The Atlanta Chinese Dance Company is one of those organizations.
Atlanta Chinese Dance Company performances are every 18 months and though many dance numbers are traditional or minority dances, over the last few years the company has been exploring issues that impact the current Chinese-American community at large.
This year, the company is exploring what it means to be Chinese in America and to be a Southerner as well, focusing on identity, belonging, and acceptance as Chinese individuals in the South. Ms. Kerry Lee describes the performance, "Intertwining Chinese dance, history, and culture with personal storytelling, "Ribbon Dance of Empowerment" tells a story of Chinese Americans in search of identity, belonging, and self-acceptance. When the dancers wield ribbons, they are empowered to command the majestic dragons within them.”
Performances of “Ribbon Dance of Empowerment, Chinese Dance through the Eyes of an American" are Saturday, October 19, 2019, at 7:30pm and Sunday, October 20, 2019, at 2:00pm. Tickets go on sale in mid-August and can be purchased through the Infinite Energy Theater box office at (770) 626-2464, or at 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, Duluth, GA 30097. Reserved seating tickets are $24.00 for adults and $17.00 for students and adults over age 65.
ACDC is a non-profit company and has received grants from the Georgia Council for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
