What happens when a child finds it easier to talk to AI than to an adult?

AI doesn’t look surprised. It doesn’t get impatient or embarrassed. For children navigating friendships, school pressure, insecurities, or questions they find difficult to say aloud, AI can feel like a safe place to talk.

But sounding understanding and truly knowing a child are very different things.

As AI becomes part of everyday life, perhaps the goal isn’t simply to keep children away from it. It’s to stay curious about their digital world, guide them in using AI responsibly, and make sure human relationships remain the place where they feel safest being themselves.

AI can listen. AI can respond. But it can’t replace a parent who listens.
