Thirteen boards.
One declaration.
In 1776, independence did not begin as fireworks, slogans, or celebration.
It began as a public commitment.
Thirteen colonies, different in place and interest, accepted the weight of becoming one body.
Two hundred and fifty years later, the American experiment is still not something we simply inherit.
It is something we are asked to keep.
Not loudly.
Not perfectly.
But deliberately.
The Declaration gave independence a voice.
The Constitution gave that voice a structure.
And every generation is handed the same quiet responsibility:
to know what was built,
to recognize what can be lost,
and to use the vote as one of the ways we keep the whole thing from coming apart.
