๐Ÿ’œ Challenging Ageism, Supporting Dignity ๐Ÿ’œ

Ageism affects people of all ages, but for older adults it can contribute to discrimination, social isolation, and even increase the risk of abuse and neglect.

When we assume someone is "too old" to learn, contribute, make decisions, or live independently, we diminish their value and their rights. Every person deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and inclusionโ€”regardless of age.

As we continue recognizing World Elder Abuse Awareness Week, take a moment to reflect on how we can challenge ageist attitudes in our daily lives. Small actions and conversations can help build stronger, more supportive communities for older adults.

Let's work together to ensure that human rights do not diminish with age.

If you suspect elder abuse in Ashland County, call 715-682-7004 and ask to speak with "Adult Intake" to make a report.

๐Ÿ’œ Start where you are, use what you have, and make a difference. ๐Ÿ’œ

Educating our communities about elder abuse prevention is something we can all do. Every conversation, every shared resource, and every act of awareness helps create safer, more supportive communities for older adults.

As we continue recognizing World Elder Abuse Awareness Day ( ), let's remember that preventing abuse, neglect, and exploitation is a shared responsibility. Together, we can support dignity, respect, independence, and safety for everyone as we age.

If you suspect elder abuse in Ashland County, call 715-682-7004 and ask to speak with "Adult Intake" to make a report.

๐Ÿ’œ Elder Abuse Awareness Week ๐Ÿ’œ

Although World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was yesterday, the conversation doesn't end there. I shared information on June 15 and will continue posting throughout this week to help raise awareness about elder abuse and the importance of protecting older adults in our communities.

Today's Challenge: 6 Facts About Elder Abuse

1๏ธโƒฃ Approximately 1 in 10 older adults experiences some form of elder abuse each year.

2๏ธโƒฃ Elder abuse can be physical, emotional, sexual, financial, or neglect.

3๏ธโƒฃ Most elder abuse is committed by someone the older adult knows and trusts.

4๏ธโƒฃ Financial exploitation is one of the most commonly reported forms of elder abuse.

5๏ธโƒฃ Social isolation can increase an older adult's risk of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

6๏ธโƒฃ Many cases of elder abuse go unreported because victims may feel ashamed, afraid, or dependent on the person causing harm.

Awareness is one of the most powerful tools we have to prevent abuse. Join me this week as we learn more about the signs of elder abuse, how to report concerns, and ways we can support the safety, dignity, and independence of older adults.

If you suspect elder abuse in Ashland County, call 715-682-7004 and ask to speak with "Adult Intake" to make a report.

๐Ÿ’œ June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day ๐Ÿ’œ

Every older adult deserves to live with dignity, respect, and safety.

Elder abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual, and financial abuse, as well as neglect and self-neglect. Unfortunately, many cases go unreported, often because older adults are afraid, isolated, or unsure where to turn for help.

Did you know that approximately 1 in 10 older adults experiences some form of abuse each year? Raising awareness is one of the most important steps in prevention.

Today, we encourage everyone to learn the warning signs, check in on older friends, family members, and neighbors, and help raise awareness about this important issue.

๐Ÿ’œ Wear purple today to show your support and commitment to ending elder abuse.

If you suspect elder abuse in Ashland County, call 715-682-7004 and ask to speak with Adult Intake to make a report.

Together, we can build communities where older adults are valued, supported, and protected.

Knowing your health numbers is an important step toward staying healthy and maintaining independence as we age.

Regular checkups with your healthcare provider can help monitor key health indicators such as blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and weight. Understanding these numbers can help identify potential health concerns early and support better long-term health outcomes.

Check out this information from the CDC and talk with your healthcare provider about your health numbers at your next visit.
