Hi Friends! Catalyst Ashland has closed but I’m still curating meaningful and cultural art shows around the valley — this one focuses on culture, addiction, and peace. I hope you can attend this Friday, November 17, 5:30 pm.
💛

I’m so excited to present Irene Kai’s Peace is Personal installation at Recovery Cafe, 226 E. Main St., Medford, for Medford’s Third Friday Art Walk. This collaboration between Reclaiming Lives/ Recovery Cafe, Irene, and me has been an enlightening journey focusing on intergenerational addiction, culture, and personal pathways to peace. Irene will be giving a brief talk from 5:30 - 5:45 pm about her personal journey towards peace. Artist Beca Blake will also be giving a presentation of her art at 6 pm (I’ll post more info about her show soon too). We hope to see you there!
🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍

An internationally known artist, author, and speaker, Irene Kai was born and raised in Hong Kong. She received her BFA from the School of Visual Arts in NYC and MFA from the Royal College of Art in London. She traveled extensively. Irene is the co-founder of the Ashland Culture of Peace Commission and brought the World Peace Flame to Ashland, OR. The only other World Peace Flame in the United States is in the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis TN. She currently teaches art at the Rogue Community College.

Closing down a business is quite challenging. Unlike opening a family business where you’re making your dreams a reality, filled with adrenaline, and seeing your hard work materialize, closing a business feels like you’re packing up and moving out of 10 homes.
After three years of housing an art gallery, podcast studio, computer/ mobile device repair, coworking space, and an additional rental space in a 9000 square foot building, it’s a bit overwhelming. We’re not open to the public, but we’re still working hard to wrap things up, especially Andres who is literally doing most of the heavy lifting. We are so grateful to our community who has purchased so much of our Catalyst furniture and all kinds of things that made our business comfortable and flourish while we were open. Thank you 🙏🏽 I’m still so proud of Andres, all of our family, and our community who brought Catalyst to life — we took a risk and it’s one we’ll never regret. We were business owners, art curators, computer/ mobile device repairers, event planners, podcast producers, receptionists, managers, janitors, and more, and at the end of the day we are most importantly, family and husband and wifey 🤍

Ding D**g 🏡! Special delivery! We’re closing Catalyst but still working hard as we wrap things up. I drove to Portland to deliver our artists and their art as we’re moving out of our space. We treasure the gift of having artists share their work; we know it’s their livelihood and we try to do whatever we can to make sure their work gets back to them safely and efficiently 💓

It’s been such a pleasure to host the Road Food show by Beca Blake .collective these past two months. Thank you for attending our closing show last night to celebrate her artwork and her family’s journey.

Beca Blake is an interdisciplinary artist who combines personal narrative and imagery of contemporary Americana. Using digitally documented performances in a variety of public spaces, Beca Blake makes mixed media art focused on the interplay between light and heavy psycho-emotional messaging in her visual storytelling. In addition to a BFA in Visual Art, she holds a second baccalaureate in Innovation and Leadership Business Administration, a minor in Art History, and a Certificate in Nonprofit Management. She enjoys negotiating art, creativity, and leadership in spheres of business and community partnerships for positive impact.

We are so thankful for all of the people we’ve had the opportunity to work with these last three years. Please join us this Friday for our Final Farewell Friday as Catalyst closes this month, August 11, 5 - 7 pm.

I want to highlight Andres who has fixed nearly a thousand computers and mobile devices for people within our region (Southern Oregon and Northern California) and beyond. We’ve had people come from Redding, Yreka, Grants Pass, and tourists in Ashland from all over the world stop in to get a broken phone or laptop fixed. When I met Andres in high school in the late 1990s he was already building websites and computers as a teenager. When he entered the Marines in his 20’s his skills became even more advanced. During the pandemic we had time to dream together and in its midst in 2021, we opened Catalyst Ashland. We are so lucky to have lived our dream as a thriving family business in Ashland 🫶🏼

Dear Community,

We are so grateful for all of the love and support from you since 2021. Catalyst Ashland will close its doors by the end of this summer. The capacity needed to run our family business has become beyond what Andres and I can continue to physically and mentally provide as we both juggle our other full-time jobs, two little kids, all of our community and volunteer positions, and the caretaking for our elderly parents which has become more of a concern lately. We also want to make more of an effort to attend to our own physical and mental health; managing so much has been a strain on own bodies as well. We will always be grateful for the love, growth, and special experiences we’ve shared with you and our community. It’s been such an incredible journey.

The good news is our family will continue to reside, work, and volunteer within Southern Oregon so we are very happy to continue our friendships and community engagement with you.

Please join us on our Final Farewell Friday event, the second Friday of August (there will not be a First Friday event this month). Come say a final goodbye to Catalyst on Friday, August 11, 5 -7 pm. My dear friend, Bill Gholson, will be presenting his poetry, along with our featured artists Beca Blake and KYRIANNA .art at our August 11th event. All are invited. Thank you for coming on this beautiful journey with us! We have so much gratitude towards thousands of individuals and numerous organizations who have supported and engaged with us since 2021.

Love,
Precious, Andres, & family
