Generic is easy to ignore.
The most memorable brands have a point of view.
For this photography concept, I wanted the experience to feel quiet, intentional, and story-driven—built for photographers who value atmosphere, craft, and observation.
Because your website shouldn’t just show your work.
It should reflect the way you see it.

They won’t work that hard.
A beautiful website might get someone’s attention.
But if visitors leave with questions, they’re much more likely to leave than take the next step.
What do you do?
Who do you help?
What’s it actually like to work with you?
What should I do next?
Your audience shouldn’t have to piece it together.
Clarity builds trust. And trust is what helps people move forward.

From screen to real life.

One of the best parts of the process is finally getting to hold the finished piece in your hands. A small reminder that all those hours behind the computer turn into something real.

✨ Always a fun moment.

Looking professional is the baseline.
The businesses that stand out do something more.
They show potential clients what makes them unique before a single conversation ever happens.
Not by being louder.
Not by trying to be different for the sake of being different.
But by showing people:
• How they work
• What they believe
• What they value
• What makes their process different
• What it’s actually like to work with them
When someone lands on your website, they’re deciding more than whether they like your services.
They’re deciding whether they trust you.
Whether they connect with your approach.
Whether you feel like the right fit.
Your website should answer those questions long before a discovery call.
Because if it doesn’t, you may never get the call in the first place.
The goal isn’t to be louder than everyone else.
It’s to be more yourself.

A professional website is the baseline.
But the brands people remember go beyond looking polished.
They create an experience.
When someone lands on your website, they’re not just evaluating your services. They’re getting a feel for what it’s like to work with you.
Your personality.
Your perspective.
Your values.
Your approach.
All of that should come through before you ever hop on a discovery call.
For this wellness website, I focused on creating something calm, welcoming, and human. A space that feels supportive from the moment you arrive.
Because standing out isn’t about being louder than everyone else.
It’s about being more of who you already are.

Most creatives spend a lot of time showing the work.
The photos.
The logo.
The website.
The final result.
But when I talk with clients, the thing that often makes someone memorable isn’t just the work itself.

It’s how they think.
It’s the experience they create.
It’s the questions they ask, the details they notice, and the way they guide a project from start to finish.

The things that feel ordinary to you because you do them every day are often the things a potential client is most curious about.
Clients aren’t just choosing a portfolio.
They’re choosing a person.
And the strongest websites don’t just showcase the work. They help people understand what it’s like to work with you.
What part of your process are you taking for granted?

I’ve always loved work that feels immersive.
The kind where you’re not just looking at images, you’re pulled into a world, a mood, a rhythm.

That was a big part of the thinking behind Lumen.

I wanted the photography to have room to breathe.

To feel cinematic, intentional, and human instead of packed into endless galleries fighting for attention.

A lot of this concept was built around pacing, restraint, storytelling, and letting certain moments carry emotional weight.
Less “here’s all my work.”

More “here’s how it feels to step into this world.”

Slow. Observant. Atmospheric. Human.

I think a lot of people assume web design starts once the visuals show up.
The colors.
The typography.
The “make it beautiful” stage.
But honestly, some of the most important decisions usually happen much earlier in the process.
Structure.
Hierarchy.
Pacing.
Messaging.
Figuring out what deserves attention and what doesn’t.
I know there are a million ways to approach creative work, but in my experience, strong structure actually creates more freedom creatively, not less.
Once the foundation is there, everything else has somewhere meaningful to go.
The visuals feel stronger.
The experience feels more cohesive.
The whole thing starts feeling intentional instead of just assembled.
A little look into part of my process behind Lumen.

I’ve been thinking a lot about connection lately.
Not in the “networking” sense.
In the human sense.
I was reading The Wild Robot with my son this week and there was this moment that stayed with me.
The robot couldn’t hide.
She couldn’t outpower everything around her.
She had to understand the world she landed in.
The animals.
Their needs.
Their fears.
Their lives.
And slowly, through caring and connection, she became part of it.
It made me think about work.
Because I think a lot of creatives are trying to stand out through optimization.
Better site. Better brand. Better strategy. Better content.
Meanwhile the thing that often creates distinction is much quieter.
Connection.
Understanding people.
Seeing their world.
Working with them instead of at them.
The photographers, brands, and businesses people remember often aren’t just the most talented.
They’re the ones who made people feel understood.
And maybe that’s what distinction really is.
Not standing apart.
Standing close enough to understand.
