Brightbell virtual receptionist Our Mission Is To Grow Your Business Ernie Daniels came to Asheville, North Carolina in the spring of 1948 expecting to die of tuberculosis.

In those days doctors often “prescribed” the clear mountain air of Asheville. But Ernie was a businessman and an entrepreneur who was not interested in sitting still. Armed with only a steno pad he took up shop on a park bench at Pritchard Park and started offering typing services to local businesses. Later, he cut a deal with a local law firm offering to do their typing in the mornings for free i

f they would allow him to use their typewriter and sell typing to others in the afternoon. Within a short time he saved enough money to buy a typewriter and set up a small “letter shop” to serve the local community. His health stayed poor but his business grew. In 1955, the Daniels family expanded the company by purchasing an existing answering service provider and creating the first professional telephone answering service in Western North Carolina. Once again, the entrepreneurial spirit of this determined man brought a vision for new services to this area.

1956 saw the fledgling company become a part of the Diser Corporation, billed as the nation’s first conglomerate. But management changes caused Ernie to rethink that decision and move away from the corporation after only a few years. By 1965, Jim Daniels, Ernie’s son, took over the family business and purchased the largest printing company in town – Miller Printing. Like his father before him his vision for business and offering services to help a growing community helped him expand and grow throughout the next decades. In 1978, the company expanded into the alarm monitoring central station market. Daniels Monitoring Servicewas among the first companies licensed by the newly established North Carolina Alarm Systems Licensing Board. Through the years there have been many “firsts”. In 1986, the company became the first to integrate printing, telecommunications and fulfillment. By 1993 the company began to use personal computers to offer variable data documents using an in-house DOS based program written by the general manager at the time. By 2001, the company developed an internal Information Technology group to help customers better communicate their marketing messages through the technology available. By the following year Daniels Graphics added the first Digital Printing press in Western North Carolina to their service offerings. Currently we're working on the first Co-Warehousing project in the area. Today the company continues to grow and add services as new technologies improve our ability to communicate our customers messages in the most cost effective ways.

When all communication was lost in our area it hit everyone hard. We had to depend on a few employees who had connectivity who carried a LOT of water!
We never lost service and we never went down. But, it was a struggle. We appreciate our team and our customers that held in there with us!
