The most important business strategies for 2022, as identified by the BrandonHall late last year, included:
1. Retaining top talent
2. Driving innovation
3. Improving customer experience
4. Creating the right organizational culture

Three full months into the year, all of these ring true—and all point to the need to focus on people through strategies like personalizing learning, assessing and enabling employee wellness, improving the level of trust, and making employees feel valued.

Back in December, when HireRoad partnered with the BrandonHall for the webinar “Developing Potential: The Future of Engagement and Learning,” we highlighted that 34% of companies said their plans for hybrid work were fluid.

That was before the huge Omicron wave—which infected an estimated 50% of Americans with COVID within 10 weeks—and the subsequent drastic decline in cases across the U.S. Other countries are seeing similarly unpredictable pandemic numbers.

What’s more, unexpected economic and political events have added to the feeling that everything is a moving target right now.

As our CEO Otto Berkes said during that webinar, “You must think about your organization as a living, breaking entity that is capable of evolving and changing. You are not just an organization structure. You are an organization full of intelligent and creative people. The organization must get to the core of how it can get people to want to be part of something and build something together. You want to get all your people to be part of a mission to rise to their potential as people so they can help the organization rise to its potential.”

Whether you’re implementing a whole new learning ecosystem, updating your existing system, or simply adding a new course, you’re in a position to make a series of decisions. The good news is, there’s no single right answer to how to design the best training scenarios for your organization.

And that’s also the tricky part.

There’s no single right way, but there are plenty of potential pitfalls and missteps. It’s beneficial to frame your decisions within the question “What works best to meet our objective within our current context, using our existing components, given our learners’ environments?”

If you have the opportunity to take a big-picture perspective, it’s great to consider new options, evolving technology, and innovative blends of techniques. But if your decision is more focused, set these larger considerations aside for another time.

Explore the factors that go into your learning ecosystem decisions in greater detail with guidance from our blog. https://hubs.ly/Q017cxxP0

Cultivating strong teams ensures your company is well positioned to develop, expand, and support projects—and, by extension, your company’s goals.

Every team is unique, but here are 7 elements that successful teams all share:
1. Communication
2. Commitment
3. Respect
4. Accountability
5. Delegation
6. Support
7. Plans

People want to work for companies that value their contributions—including the chance to help address current challenges.

On the HireRoad blog, CEO Otto Berkes shares 4 approaches to help you realize the within your organization:
1️⃣ Identify the right problems. Not all problems are equally important or pressing.
2️⃣ Identify and empower the problem solvers. Then dive into the ideas.
3️⃣ Test and validate solutions. Create an environment where there aren’t repercussions for testing potential solutions that ultimately don’t work.
4️⃣ Implement and celebrate. Sharing the success within your organization builds momentum toward tackling the next problem on the list.

As the pandemic hits the two-year point, workplaces are encountering the pitfall of proximity bias (giving preferential treatment to those who are physically closest).

Our CEO Otto Berkes explores the dynamics of this common cognitive bias with RecruitingDaily in a new article.

Actively mitigating this bias includes steps such as:
🔸 Updating business practices to consciously prioritize bottom-line results over where people are located.
🔸 Giving employees flexibility within defined expectations.
🔸 Focusing on the value created instead of the number of tasks completed.
🔸 Looking beyond how often (and how long) executives see workers in the office.
🔸 Utilizing tech tools to improve communication and modernize performance management.

As a bonus, all of these will lead to increased employee engagement and other benefits. Read more about ways to counter proximity bias on the RecruitingDaily website. https://hubs.ly/Q016YVPS0.

Proximity bias happens when individuals favor or give preferential treatment to people who are physically closest to them

In this month’s Forbes Business Council post, CEO Otto Berkes shares his thoughts on “Solving the Right Problems by Tapping Your Organization’s Human Potential.”

People want to work for companies that value their contributions—including the chance to help address current challenges. Here are four approaches to help you realize the within your organization.

By tapping the human potential within your organization as you work to solve problems, you demonstrate that you are focused on outcomes delivered by individuals rather than hours clocked by nameless, faceless "human capital."
