SAP Connect 2026 wrapped up today, putting the Autonomous Enterprise front and center. And Joule Work is already showing what that can look like.

Used by 110,000 SAP employees, Joule Work is delivering a reported 20% productivity gain across Finance, HR, and Procurement.

Manoj Swaminathan (President and CPO of SAP Autonomous Suite) described the principle simply:

“AI on apps” rather than “AI in apps.”

That idea runs through the SAP Business AI Platform, connecting business data, context, agents, and applications through Business Data Cloud, Knowledge Graph, Joule Studio, and AI Agent Hub.

The strategy is also expanding. SAP announced the acquisition of TechWolf for AI-powered workforce and skills intelligence, while SAP Pay marks SAP’s entry into payments.

And to close the keynote, Christian Klein focused on what it takes to move from a semi-autonomous enterprise to an autonomous one: trusted data, connected systems, and the business context AI needs to act.

The idea behind tokenmaxxing was understandable: encourage people to use AI and discover new use cases. The problem started when token consumption became the goal rather than a signal.

More tokens don't necessarily translate into more business value.

Higher consumption may reflect faster software delivery, better customer support, or more efficient operations. Or simply duplicated work, oversized prompts, unnecessary model calls, and higher AI bills.
