🇻🇳 VIETNAM MAINTAINS ITS No. 1 POSITION IN THE U.S. APPAREL MARKET, REACHING $9.36 BILLION IN THE FIRST 7 MONTHS OF 2026
In the first seven months of 2026, Vietnam exported $9.36 billion worth of apparel to the United States, down just 1.03% from the same period in 2025.
This decline was significantly smaller than the 8.65% contraction in overall U.S. apparel imports, allowing Vietnam to maintain its position as the largest apparel supplier to the U.S. market.
→ Vietnam: $9.36 billion, -1.03%, accounting for approximately 22.4% of total U.S. apparel imports
→ Bangladesh: $4.66 billion, -6.50%
→ China: $4.55 billion, -34.21%
→ Indonesia: $2.74 billion, +2.76%
→ Cambodia: $2.62 billion, +10.48%
According to OTEXA under the U.S. Department of Commerce, total U.S. apparel imports reached $41.83 billion in the first seven months of 2026, down 8.65% year-on-year.
Most notably, imports from China fell by more than 34%, while several other major suppliers continued to expand.
Cambodia recorded double-digit growth, while Indonesia also increased its apparel exports to the U.S.
China’s sharp decline is occurring alongside growth in several other sourcing markets, but the shift is not being captured by any single country.
Against this backdrop, Vietnam has not posted strong export growth, but it has successfully preserved its export scale and maintained a substantial lead over its closest competitors.
This suggests that competition within the U.S. apparel supply chain is becoming increasingly diversified.
For apparel companies and investors, the key question is no longer simply which country is gaining market share, but:
Which Vietnamese apparel companies have the financial strength, export capacity, and level of U.S. market exposure needed to sustain their competitive position over the long term?
