The Spatial Data Lab (SDL) is offering the internship program for high school, undergraduate and graduate students. It offers tailored professional training based on a student’s academic or career interests, especially in the field of spatial data science. This internship will provide hands-on experience in utilizing open-source tools, workflow technology, geospatial data, spatial modeling, and their applications across different fields.

This project is to conduct research on the design and development of tools, models and workflows for geospatial data management, analysis and visualization on the Spatial Data Lab (SDL) platform, which is a core infrastructure for case-based study and training. The project is a joint initiative between Harvard University’s Center for Geographic Analysis, Knime, Future Data Lab and China Data Instiutute, as part of the NSF funded Spatiotemporal Innovation Center’s research portfolio. The project’s objective is to enable researchers to share their spatial data with others online, conduct spatial data analysis with GIS and statistics tools on the cloud, and develop workflow-based data-driven study cases. The project also includes training programs on spatiotemporal data analysis for economic, social, public health, urban planning and other research subjects.

Introduction to Weibo Mobility Index Data

As one of the largest social media, Weibo is considered as the “Twitter” in China. Based on the geo-tagged information in the sampled Weibo data, we built the Weibo mobility index by provinces and prefecture cities in China. This webinar will give an introduction to this Weibo mobility index, including data sources, methodology, comparative analysis with Baidu mobility index, and some prospective applications of the Weibo mobility data for the spatial studies of China.
