Password or Passkey?

Passwords have been the default for decades. That’s starting to change.

Passkeys let users sign in with the same biometrics or device authentication they already use, eliminating the need to create, remember, or reuse passwords. They’re also resistant to phishing because there’s no password for an attacker to steal.

For businesses building or modernizing applications, authentication should be part of the design conversation - not something tagged at the end.

If your new application still defaults to usernames and passwords, it may be worth asking whether passkeys belong on the roadmap.

September is an important month for organizations using Copilot Business or Enterprise.

GitHub moved Copilot to usage-based billing on June 1, with AI Credits replacing premium request units. To ease the transition, existing Business and Enterprise customers received additional promotional usage for June, July, and August. September was the first month organizations are operating without that extra cushion.

That makes now a good time to look at what is actually costing your organization.

Usage-based pricing does not necessarily mean organizations should use less AI. It means they need better visibility, governance, and training so developers can use GitHub Copilot effectively without creating unnecessary spend.
