Are we losing the art of listening? 🤨

If you can’t identify a frequency without an RTA, you’re hamstringing your own career. Visual tools are helpful, but they don't tell the whole story of how a room actually feels. Real pros prioritize their ears over their gear every single time.

Tough love: If you're constantly staring at a screen to find feedback, you're missing the show.

Who else learned to mix before RTAs were built into every channel strip? Let’s hear it. 👇

Hard truth for anyone in production: You cannot please everyone all the time. In fact, trying to do so is the quickest way to p**s off the entire crew.

I’ve seen it a hundred times—someone gets so bogged down in "small requests" that they lose sight of the primary mission. Make sure the core of your job gets done well first. When the foundation is solid, you can handle the extras. Not only will people be more satisfied with your work, but you’ll actually move faster.

Is it better to be the "nice guy" who's behind schedule, or the "pro" who delivers the show? Let’s hear it in the comments. 👇

Let’s talk about the one "compromise" that actually kills a show: Shared Preamps. I’m seeing this more and more on fly dates lately, and it’s time to stop. When you lose independent control of your gain, you lose control of your mix. Period. Even with gain compensation

Is a split really that much to ask for in 2026, or am I just the "salty" one here? (Hint: I'm not.)

Real pros know—if you can’t protect the gain stage, you can’t protect the show. What’s your "hill to die on" for fly date gear?

The music industry is full of complex technical hurdles, but the best piece of advice I ever received was remarkably simple: "Put that thing on the ground because it’s gonna end up there anyway."

Whether it’s a laptop, a pelican case, or a wireless rack—if it isn't secured, it's eventually going to find the floor. Being a professional isn't just about how you mix; it’s about how you manage your environment to prevent disasters before they happen.

Think about it. What's the most expensive peice of gear you've lost this way?

Stop overcomplicating your mix. 🎚️

Whether you're in a club or an arena, the job is the same. No rules, just results. We're going console-agnostic

What’s the one piece of "pro" audio advice you were given that turned out to be total nonsense?

It’s an "industry standard" that usually sounds like a box of bees. Shrill, mid-heavy, and honestly... lazy. If you aren't pairing it with something that actually has some weight, you're missing half the tone. Better options exist, we just stopped looking for them in 1985.

Is the 57 a legendary workhorse or just a lazy default? What’s your go-to instead?

Most touring musicians have no idea that FAA Modernization laws (49 U.S.C. § 41724) actually protect your instrument. You don’t have to "gate check" just because a gate agent is having a bad day. Know the law so you don’t get bullied at the gate.

What’s the worst "airline vs. instrument" horror story you’ve ever had?

If you’re not using your preamps to find that sweet spot, you’re just a gain-stager, not a mixer. Stop mixing with your eyes and Turn the k**b until it sounds good.

Stop looking for "5 simple steps." 🚫

I’m at Rock Nashville today thinking about the reaction to my last video. Look, if you’re looking for a magic preset or a 5-step checklist to mix like a pro, you’re in the wrong place.

The only real "trick" is having the guts to turn the k**bs until it sounds good. No rules. Just results.

Wait for the end... I think I'm being followed by a certain console. 🏃💨

I’m dropping a story in the comments about the "illegal" EQ move that actually saved my career. What’s yours? 👇

Why I don't mix on spreadsheets.

I see a lot of guys at NAMM this weekend defending "Industry Standards" based on old spec sheets. Let’s set the record straight on processing.

Did you know the Behringer X32 uses 40-bit floating point? That’s the same resolution many "elite" consoles use for their channel processing. If you're paying $200k for $2k math, you aren't buying tone—you're buying a brand name.

The Allen & Heath SQ-5 in this photo runs a 96-bit fixed point XCVI core. That is 56 bits of extra headroom on every single channel. That’s why these desks have soul and "grit" while others feel clinical.

Results over tradition. Check the math and then use your ears.

What are you mixing on this weekend? Drop your rig in the comments. 👇

Ever wonder what the FOH Engineer is thinking about your tone? 🤔

Ryan Goldbacher tells us the one thing a guitarist can work on tonight to make their live sound instantly better. (Hint: If you're using a Kemper/Modeler, you NEED to hear this.)

It’s about those low-mids and not overworking the venue's PA system! 🛠️
