The Best Video Streaming Services of 2018

Check out this a great article from PC Magazine comparing all of the Video streaming services out there. We’re fortunate here in ATL that many of them carry all of the local channels eliminating the need for an antenna. Currently my favorite is Sony’s Playstation Vue (you don’t need a Playstation to use it) service. It offers a very flexible DVR, powerful user interface and 4 tiers of channel bundles and very competitively priced starting at $39.99/month. My next recommendation would be Youtube TV which just recently became available as an option on Roku. It’s biggest advantage is it offers an unlimited DVR and will store recordings up to 9 months (only 28 days for the Sony service).

Internet bill too high? Here's how to save

Check out this article from USA Today. Many of our customers face the challenge that when they cut their cable TV service, their cable provider/ISP tries to bump of the price of their internet service which you still need to cut the cord.
Some of the things I recommend: Look at a 25 Mbps service vs 75 Mbps whih many of the cable operators try and upsell you to. Unless you have 3 or more people watching TV at the same time, 25 Mbps should be sufficient. Also if you have an option to switch to another provider, check out that provider’s options and make your current provider aware of any deals out there. You might have to switch to another provider to get the best deal.

The best universal remote control

Check out this this great article from engadget. The newer Roku sticks can now control the power and volume of many TVs. But it can’t handle a TV with a Home Theater System which many of my customers have on their main TVs (although Roku can handle a TV with a Soundbar). If you want to have a cord cutter solution with a single remote, you’ll need a universal remote control. This article shows some of the best choices. We can include this as an option and set this up for you as part of our cord cutter services.

Logitech basically owns this category.

The best Roku features you might not be aware of

Check out this great article from engadget. I particularly like #2: HEAR THAT LINE AGAIN WITH INSTANT REPLAY. This is a setting where if you missed some dialog (which happens to me a lot), you can push the replay button on your remote and it will replay the last 10 seconds of content.

Some of the platform's most useful features aren't necessarily obvious.

The Best Media Streaming Devices

Here is a great article from Forbes on the various cord cutter media streaming devices. While most of our customers have the Amazon Fire TV or Roku streaming stick, I am tending the agree with the article’s recommendations to promote the Roku streaming stick. Roku has the most options for every one of your TVs (older TVs, HD and 4K) and also has the most number of content channels out there. Their remote can also control your TV power and volume meaning this can truly be a “single remote” solution. The Amazon Fire TV is still great if you watch a lot of Amazon Prime content and you have a lot of Amazon Alexa powered Echo type devices. Apple TV is the most expensive option but great if you are an Apple fanboy, have a large iTunes library and like their user interface. I lately have become a fan of Youtube. I recently bought a 65” 4K TV and have found a lot of travel videos available in 4K. The picture is so accurate, it feels like I’m visiting these places live.
