"I can bring home the bacon... fry it up in a pan."
Marketing has a long history of trying to define women, from the kitchen-bound 50s to the "Superwoman" expectations of the 70s.
In 1978, this Enjoli ad was marketed as the anthem for the "modern woman." In reality, it was a blueprint for burnout. An impossible standard that told women they had to be everything to everyone, all at once.
As the founder of a woman-owned business, I look at this vintage ad and see a narrative that many of us are still navigating today. We know that "doing it all" isn't a 30-second perfume commercial; it’s a masterclass in grit, leadership, and the invisible labor that keeps families and businesses moving forward.
Kate Winslet said it best: "You can because you must, and you just DO."
To the women who "just DO" the impossible every day, often balancing careers and families because it’s what's needed: Today we celebrate the strength of motherhood.
