Macungie Borough Snow Emergency Declared - Saturday, January 24th - 7:00 PM

The Borough of Macungie has declared a Snow Emergency effective Saturday, January 24th beginning at 7PM. Due to an uncertain end time of the storm, a second communication will be sent out when the emergency is declared over.

What Does this Mean?
All vehicles MUST be removed from the following posted Snow Emergency Routes:
- Main Street (both sides) along the entire length of the borough
- Church Street (east side), from Main St to southern borough line
- Lea Street (east side), from Main St to Cotton St
- Locust Street (north side), from Church St to western borough line
- Poplar Street (west side), from Main St to Hickory St

Designated Parking Areas:
During a declared Snow Emergency only, parking is permitted in the municipal lots located at:
- Borough Hall, 21 Locust St
- Macungie Institute, 510 E Main St
- Flower Park, 39 W Main St
Cars must be removed following the end of the emergency.

Other Important Information & Tips
- Borough Public Works employees will be working throughout the storm to clear roadways. The primary concern is to keep the travel lanes open, especially during times of heavy snowfall, ensuring safe travel for emergency situations. After the storm has passed, crews will then clear from curb to curb where able, and start general cleanup
- Residents who have the facilities are urged to remove vehicles from the roadway and park in their garage and/or driveway
- Do not place snow into the travel lane of the roadway when clearing your property
- Per Borough Ordinance, sidewalks are to be cleared within 24 hours after the end of the storm. All property owners are responsible to clear the sidewalk along their frontage including any crosswalks at a corner
- To assist emergency services, please consider clearing the area around fire hydrants near your property
- Prepare for possible power loss: add warm clothes to emergency kit, check flashlight and radio batteries, charge mobile devices, fill car gas tank, etc...
- Only use generators in open areas away from windows and home to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning
- Bring pets/animals inside and move livestock to sheltered areas with non-frozen drinking water

Finally - if you don't need to travel, please stay home! The fewer vehicles on the roadways the more efficiently they can be cleared of snow.
