A terrifying worst-case scenario projection for Liberia and Sierra Leone (not including Guinea!); 1.4 million cases of the Ebola virus by January 20, 2015. With a mortality rate of ~50% that is 700,000 deaths.

On the other hand it is important to note ***this is only a projection and a worst-case projection at that***.

The best-case scenario is the epidemic will almost be ended by the same date (January 20, 2015).

With the United States Government committing 3,000 troops and medical equipment this takes us a step closer to the best-case scenario, although is not enough in itself. We all hope the international community increases its response to help.

A report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released Tuesday gave worst- and best-case estimates for Liberia and Sierra Leone based on computer modeling.

Today African Palliative Care Association & Honexus Uganda took a field trip to Gombe Hospital. The hospital is refreshingly well managed despite being in the resource-poor public sector. We look forward to rolling out some of our software next week!

Patients have no easy method for reporting wrong-doings at clinics. Whether or not the higher levels of the health industry want to see, hear or speak of mismanagement, corruption or malpractice they are unable to efficiently research this information. We want to change this.

With high-capacity data networks such as 3G and now 4G LTE being installed it seems Lower Income Countries ("LIC's") are skipping expensive land lines and it is not hard to see why. The implications and opportunities of this are prominently in our minds when designing our software for mass-scale use.

One of the pleasant surprises we have had since starting Honexus has been the realisation of how advanced mobile networks are in lower-income countries.
