Internet Usage in Tanzania
As of 2021, the estimated internet usage in Tanzania is approximately 23.7 million people, which is equivalent to 41% of the country's population. This figure has been growing steadily over the years due to increased mobile phone pe*******on and expansion of 4G networks in the country.
According to a report by the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), the majority of internet users in Tanzania access the internet via mobile devices, with smartphones being the most popular device. The report also indicates that social media is the most popular online activity among Tanzanian internet users, followed by entertainment, communication, and e-commerce.
However, despite the growth of internet usage in Tanzania, access to the internet is still limited in some rural areas, where network coverage is weak or nonexistent, and infrastructure is inadequate. In addition, the cost of internet services remains relatively high for many Tanzanians, making it difficult for some people to access the internet regularly.
Overall, internet usage in Tanzania is growing, but there is still a need for more investment in infrastructure and policy initiatives to increase affordability and accessibility to ensure that more Tanzanians can take advantage of the benefits of the internet.
