【THE e-Mark/ e-Marker IC YOU SHOULD KNOW】
Few weeks ago we have talked about PSU (Power supply unit) definitions, do you know there is another protection feature for charging cable called ‘e-Mark’(e-Marker IC)?
This week let we talk about the ‘e-Mark’!

●The purpose of e-Mark
Due to PD (Power Delivery) charging function becomes more widespread, the risk of fire incident will increase. To prevent that danger, a protective device called "e-Marker IC" was invented and installed in the charging cable designed to support specific function.

●The installation regulations of e-Marker IC
Normally, the higher current number can transfer large power. However, the higher the number of currents can also increase the risk of danger.

Usually we can see 5A, 3A or 5A of current specification well on charging cable, if the charging function will support more than 3A, then the charging cable should equipped with the e-Marker chip.

●Notice
Notice that if you use PD100W charging adapter and want to have PD100W’s performance, your charging cable and the host device are also need the charging function to support to PD100W, or there will be less performance.

【THE WiFi 2.4GHz and 5GHz YOU SHOULD KNOW】
You may have seen characters such as “2.4GHz” and “5GHz” from the product specifications while buying electronic products with WiFi function? Do you know what the 2.4GHz and 5GHz are?

This week let we learn about what are WIFI 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

There are a lot of standards for WiFi, and among them there is a standard called IEEE 802.11ac, which can run the data transfer through different frequency bands. 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands are the most common frequency supported with electronic products with wireless function.
●Features of 2.4 GHz frequency
Advantages: The 2.4 GHz transmits have a longer range than 5 GHz, being strong to against obstacles such as walls and floors, and easily pass the WiFi signal to another room, upper floor or lower floor.

Disadvantage: The 2.4 GHz transmits have a slower speed than 5 GHz. Due to the lower cost, not only WiFi products, there are a lot of products, such as electronic products and Bluetooth products, also use the 2.4GHz band, so the signal becomes overcrowded and interference.
●Features of 5 GHz frequency
Advantages: The 5 GHz transmits have a faster speed than 2.4 GHz, having less signal overcrowded and interference, the communication can be more stable.

Disadvantage: The 5 GHz transmits have a shorter range than 2.4 GHz so the signal range is hard to be as wide as 2.4 GHz’s. The cost is higher than 2.4 GHz, so there are fewer products can support 5 GHz frequency.

However, there are more and more situation to switch the connection between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency in order to maintain a stable communication state, so that there are also more products equipped with dual-band router that can support connect to the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency at the same time.

So, make sure the WiFi function you need before buying them!

【THE USB4 FUNTIONS YOU SHOULD KNOW】

Recently the USB4 computer peripherals have start to appear on the market. Are you dizzy and think that there are SO MUCH USB types on the market, why need to join another one?
Or you may feel very strange while every time see USB4 but without telling Type-A or Type-C?

This week that we talk about what USB is! Of course, in a simple way ;)

●The design goals of USB4:
1. Higher Performance: Higher transfer bandwidth.
2. More Convenient Device: USB4 unifies the device connector to Type-C, reducing the user's confusion in choosing the connector, while maintaining backward compatibility with existing USB and Thunderbolt products.

→ So if you see “USB4” in the future, you can be sure that the connector it will be Type-C! No more confusion.

●The functions USB4 can support:
There are different support function specifications depended on the which kind of setting device USB4 be set, so here I only take the computer peripheral device for example.

1. Data Transmission Speed: Can be divided into versions that support up to 20Gbps or 40Gbps.
2. Power Supply: Normally the large power supply can support up to PD100W. (**Noted: The specification of PD3.1 240W has not been included in the specification of USB4)
3. Audio and Video Transmission: At least single screen output. (Support DP Alt Mode)

But it should be noted that not all USB4 peripheral products will definitely have above three additional functions (but may also have all additional functions at the same time) because each of products may have different function designs.

So before purchasing the product, you should be careful to make sure if the function meets your needs!

【THE PSU DEFINITIONS YOU SHOULD KNOW】
There are bunch of PSU (Power supply unit) products on the market, which may have some protection features such as OCP, OVP, but do you really know what they are?

Today's article content is a brief explanation of some of the protection features that may be shown on the product’s package or QIG.

OCP (Over Current Protection) & OVP (Over Voltage Protection)
→Prevent dangerous from pushing too much current/ voltage into the PSU by setting current/ voltage upper limit of each group output. Power supply will automatically shut down and stop operation if any of the current /voltage exceeds the limit.

OPP (Over Power Protection):
→Protect PSU by limit total wattage.

SCP (Short circuit protection):
→Protect PSU by turning off all outputs lock out the short circuit, and resume operations only when all the short circuit are removed.

OTP (Over Temperature Protection):
→Protect PSU by setting the temperature upper limit. Prevent burning damage which is due to high temperature output.

UVP (Under Voltage Protection):
→Prevent equipment damage due to low voltage.
