40 services onto one shared chart. That solved the mess. It didn't solve a new dev asking "okay, how do I actually ship one?"

Turns out standardizing and self-servicing are two different jobs. The answer was still a Slack thread: "copy this one, change the IAM role." Four pull requests, three repos, wrong merge order, a pod stuck because nobody mentioned the sync-wave annotation.

So we built a golden path on Backstage to close that gap too. The wizard was the easy part. The rule that mattered: the platform writes to Git, and stops. No cluster credentials sitting around, no deploy button dressed up as GitOps.

Part two of two. Part one, on the chart and the repo underneath this, is linked in comments.

We're proud to be a Gold Sponsor of AWS Community Day NL 2026.

This one's put together by the AWS user group in the Netherlands, volunteers who run this stuff on weekdays and organize it on their own time. Respect.

We'll be there with coffee and opinions about Kubernetes setups that got out of hand, and legacy systems everyone's afraid to touch. Bring yours, we'll compare scars.

23 September 2026, Utrecht.

There's a re:Invent ticket on the line at our stand.

Commit to a PoC on AWS while you're at LEAP and you're in the draw for a ticket to Las Vegas 2026. That's it. No form maze.

Come talk it through at H3-D171. We're here until September 3rd.

We’re at LEAP 2026, starting today.

Find us at H3-D171 through September 3rd. Come by for a coffee and talk shop, we like hearing what’s actually going on in your stack.

See you on the floor.

Heading into AWS Cloud and AI Türkiye 2026 soon.

If you're going, swing by our booth. Bring your Kubernetes setup that got out of hand, or the legacy workload nobody wants to touch, we like that stuff.

See you there.

40 services, 40 almost-identical deployment.yaml files, each one carrying a decision nobody remembers making.

We built one shared Helm chart and one repo that says which service runs where. Services move onto it one at a time, one environment at a time, by flipping a line in a file. Then the switch itself found a bug: targetRevision meant a branch in one repo before migration, and a branch in a completely different repo after. We hadn't written that down either. The pipeline found out for us.

Part one of two. Part two, on turning this into actual self-service, is next week.

Booth's set. Find us at H3-D170.

Same offer as before: come talk shop, ask us the hard architecture questions, or tell us what's currently keeping you up at night. We've probably seen a version of it.

"MCP is bloated, just use bash" made the rounds this year. We wrote about why that take is only half right.

Now the follow-up: how do you actually fix the token bloat without throwing the protocol out?

Turns out you don't need to choose. Wrap MCP behind a meta-tools gateway, load only what the agent actually needs, and it stops eating your context window before the conversation even starts. Auth, audit trails, and multi-tenant isolation stay intact too, the things bash can't give you.

If your agent's context is disappearing before it reads your first message, this one's for you.

Kubernetes 1.37 lands August 26, and the changelog looks long. Most of it can wait.

But one thing can't: if you're still on cgroup v1, the kubelet won't start unless you set an explicit override. That's been the default since v1.35, and it's not getting reversed. EKS Fargate and older GKE node pools, this is probably you.

Beyond that, nothing's urgent. ipvs mode is being phased out over the next few releases. Rootless Mode is hitting Beta. Volume Health Monitor is back from the dead, still Alpha, finally giving CSI drivers a way to flag corrupted volumes.

Check your cgroup version this week. Read the rest with your coffee.

Few days together. Good food. A cancelled boat tour.

Same crew, scattered across cities and timezones, back in the same room again. Technical presentations, interview style talks that were genuinely fun, good food, and a tasting trip that turned into a proper outing.

About the boat, weather had other plans. Again. Maybe we should start checking forecasts. Nobody really dwelled on it though.

See you at the next one.
