Last night, our Rising Sun Foundation students and volunteers came to pay their respects and brought gifts for Thadingyut. I was touched by their thoughtfulness and grateful for the opportunity to share some advice.
We spoke about equality: everyone deserves respect, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, skin colour or religion. Our abilities differ, but those differences do not determine our worth.
I shared my own example. I am more confident in English, but I cannot read or write Burmese, and my spoken Burmese is limited. Others are stronger where I struggle. Having more knowledge in one area does not make any of us a better person than someone else.
I also recited Ka Ma War, offering wishes for their well-being, peace and protection. Learning the recitation took me six months of daily practice—listening, repeating and memorising the sounds without being able to read the text.
I wanted to demonstrate that progress comes through dedication, discipline and consistent practice. We all have limitations, but we can find ways to learn and improve.
Thank you for your kindness. My hope is that you continue growing in knowledge and confidence, while treating everyone you meet with equal dignity.
