More terrorist attacks. More natural disasters. When will it happen to your business?
A couple of customer delays now mean that I am mainly free between now and the end of December to provide your company with a Business Continuity Plan, Disaster Recovery Plan, Crisis Management System, Training or just a simple 3 hour exercise that will do more to get your key management team ready for the next disaster than you can imagine.
Happy to be referred by anyone to their colleagues or friends, and can provide this anywhere in Asia, Europe and Australia/NZ.
You cover any costs, and then after I finish you pay me what you think it is worth to your organisation.

Companies and organisations should at all times have plans in place for natural and other disasters. The current Ebola outbreak in West and Central Africa is rapidly becoming a serious concern, with the WHO and other groups asking for increasing assistance to contain the virus. Many African countries have closed borders and flights to/from affected countries. There is no sign of the virus yet in Asia, but it would be prudent for managers to review (or develop) pandemic plans that were prepared for H1N1, H5N1, and Sars previously. The most significant pieces of information with the current cases are a death rate of around 50%, and incubation period of 21 days. This may sound better than 90% death rate, but it means that there will be more carriers and more time for each carrier to spread the virus than in previous cases where victims were killed quickly and the virus effectively stopped itself from being spread. Coverage can assist quickly and easily if assistance is needed.

It is always very terrifying when unforeseen events happen to a business, especially when a shopping mall, stocked with tons of goods catches fire or even things start to explode inside the warehouse.
This gives us a reminder that at all times businesses need to be prepared for the unexpected and have their continuity plan in place, so that businesses can recover quickly.

This years flood looks to be worse than most years, but still looks to be less than in 2011. Many homes, and some lives have already been lost, despite the country knowing that floods happen every year around this time.

We advised companies after 2011 that a good Business Continuity Plan is required at all times. Unfortunately many companies are relying on the government’s plans, and those of the industrial estates. Most of the major industrial estates have established some form of d***s to hold any flood water away from the factory assets.

The problem is that these d***s are untested, so many factory owners will not be able to rely this protection only. Hopefully these d***s will work as planned, but this would also mean that the industrial estates will be inaccessible for an unknown period. This means that factories will still need to be shut down in a controlled manner, and assets moved to higher areas in case the d***s are breached. This also means plans are needed for the shutdown period which may include temporary stand down of staff, or finding and establishing alternate operating and manufacturing options. Once any floods have passed, then these temporary operations need to be shut down again, and the factories restarted.

All of these activities all need planning.

Sunday night's ThaiAirways International(THAI) landing accident now threatens to get worse by accusations of poor crisis management. Complaints have been filed by some passengers involved in the incident about poor treatment by ground staff and lack of communication during the crisis causing more confusion at the scene. There are two key groups that need to respond to these incidents initially – the airport emergency services, and the airline.
It appears the airport had performed a good job, but now needs to get the plane moved, repair the runway and get flights moving back on time. The airline has problems with unhappy passengers and will likely incur significant costs and damages claims, and will have a reputation problem. Co-ordination and communication between these two, other technical groups (such as the plane manufacturer and maintenance teams), the authorities, passengers, staff and the media will all now be critical to smooth handing of this affair.

How would your company handle a similar incident?

About 40 passengers injured in Sunday night's ThaiAirways International(THAI) landing accident have complained of poor treatment by ground staff.

18th August 2013. In the Philippines a ferry collided with a cargo ship which carried more than 800 passengers and crew members. The ferry sank within 10 minutes of the impact.
The ferry was also carrying 120,000 litres (32,000 gallons) of fuel when it sank, and the accident has caused this fuel to leak into the ocean.
It is good to hear that 600 lives have been saved, and this is clearly the most important thing to think about.

But now onto the next stage … what happens to the oil leak, and how will this be managed? What insurance does the ferry have for the loss (and replacement) of the boat, loss of business, and loss of lives and injury payments? How will the ferry line repair their reputation for any of their other ferries, and will customers trust them? Will there be any police charges laid in relation to the deaths, injuries, or fuel spill, and who will be the ones charged? What is the cost to the other boat?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-23736610

At least 31 people die and around 170 are missing after a ferry with more than 800 on board collides with a cargo ship in the Philippines.
