The March 2026 edition of SIPET Connect is out!

This month’s Transition Toolbox turns to one of the most critical, yet often under-integrated, dimensions of the energy transition: gender. In this conversation, Ellen Bomasang, a long-time energy and international development practitioner with experience spanning Asia, Africa, and beyond, reflects on her journey across the sector and how her work has increasingly centered centred on questions of access, equity, and inclusion.

SIPET Connect's February 2026 edition is out!

This month, we explore a key question shaping Southeast Asia’s energy transition: why do strong projects still struggle to meet capital (and vice versa)?

Inside this issue:
🔹 A Transition Toolbox interview with Sarah Love (FCDO) on investable pipelines, the ASEAN Power Grid, and blended finance moving private capital from interest to action
🔹 An explainer on scaling cross-border power trade, from grid rules to risk-sharing
🔹 Regional clean energy jobs, events, and fresh reads
If you work at the intersection of policy, finance, and power systems, this one’s for you.

New on SIPET Connect 💡

Frauke Roeser, Co-Founder and Director at the NewClimate Institute, shares insights from COP30 in Belém, reflecting on what the outcomes mean for fossil fuels, climate finance, just transitions, and the role of national and regional action.

"COPs remain extremely important. They show that multilateralism is not dead. They provide a forum where all countries have to come together and, in a very transparent way, show the world where they stand. That visibility is crucial."

As concludes, one message stands out for Southeast Asia: achieving a resilient and interconnected regional power system requires not only strong policies, but the regulatory capacity to implement them. Cross-border power trade, system flexibility, and long-term decarbonization all depend on regulators equipped to manage increasingly complex electricity markets.

In this context, the launch of the pilot Summer School for Regulators in ASEAN marks an important step forward. Developed by the Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership with the Florence School of Regulation, United Nations ESCAP and the ASEAN Energy Regulators Network, the programme builds the technical and practical skills needed to support the ASEAN Power Grid. Hosted by the Energy Commission of Malaysia, the initiative also contributes to the region’s longer-term effort to establish a sustained regulatory training institution.
