If Docker feels like it’s mysteriously eating your RAM,
that’s not a tooling bug, it’s a visibility problem.
“Docker, Docker?”
“Yes papa.”
“Eating RAM?”
“No papa.”
Then you open Activity Monitor.
This isn’t about Docker being bad.
It’s about abstraction hiding cost.
Containers made deployment easier.
They also made resource usage easier to ignore.
You don’t feel the memory leak.
You just spin up another container.
And another.
And another.
Until:
• Your laptop sounds like a jet engine
• Your cloud bill quietly doubles
• Nobody can explain where the RAM went
Modern tooling optimizes for velocity.
But velocity without visibility turns into waste.
The issue isn’t containers.
It’s running systems you don’t understand.
If you can’t clearly explain:
• What’s running
• Why it’s running
• What it costs when it runs
You’re not moving faster.
You’re just postponing accountability.
Good engineers don’t fight abstractions.
They respect what abstractions hide.
Because sooner or later,
the RAM always tells the truth.
