Last weekend our team visited Sensorium to check out new trends in digital design and machine learning. Sensorium is three days of workshops and talks focused on computational art, design and performance.

Our big thanks belong to:

- GENE KOGAN (http://genekogan.com): presented machine learning techniques for the wide public (from generative systems to artificial intelligence), all available on the open source knowledge repository ml4a, hosting writings and tutorials.
- MARIO KLINGERMANN (http://mario-klingemann.tumblr.com): approached artificial Intelligence as mainly an artistic tool and the building block of autonomous creative machines.
- FIELD.IO (http://field.io): the masters of computational aesthetics and generative art decided to offer a glimpse of the backstage workflow of their projects and show the motivation & hard work needed to get from idea to reality.
- Domestic Data Streamers talked about bringing back emotions into data visualization, Maria Judova presented her projects combining technology and dance, and Playmodes presented some of their immersive experiences.

Artist and co-creator of the Ableton Live music software, Robert Henke, a.k.a. Monolake, creates audiovisual installations. He stunned us at this year’s NEXT festival at the A4 in Bratislava with his performance of Lumière II. His experiments with the properties of lasers and sound never fail to deliver a spectacular experience.

Thanks to Warlords Paintball club we enjoyed three hours of fun in a paint-covered chipboard maze. In a who-shot-who game between Alice in Tokyo and Thirtyseventy Digital, players took their best shot at eliminating the enemy.

9 teams from Thirtyseventy Digital and Alice in Tokyo competed against each other in a mixed doubles badminton tournament, where a mismatch in skill levels proved to be a great source of humorous banter between serves. And our sense of post-game sportsmanship closed out the night with a well-deserved round of drinks.

Bringing a gaming concept to the design week was definitely an unexpected move at the famously inventive VIENNA DESIGN WEEK. PIEdeck: INVISIBLE WALLS is an experimental interactive installation which attracted visitors to interact with each other in a large-scale virtual setting. But it was also able to run in different modes every day based on the interactions of the previous day, which made for one of the most memorable installations of the year.

Congrats to Aleksey and his team on winning Best Prototype! The 2016 Bratislava Art & Data Hackathon was bursting with creativity, and graced with the participation of a few of our brightest minds here at Thirtyseventy Digital. Amalia expertly guided the contestants in their endeavours, and Aleksey was there to win. In just 24 hours, our iOS developer and his team invented KLIMA, an in-app gallery operating through a weather forecasting application. Relatable art pieces, portraying local weather information, are meant to attract more people to galleries through simply checking the weather. Pretty cool idea, Aleksey!
