Heavy parts - short cycle times. A classic automation challenge, solved ✅

Picking 15 kg cast iron brake discs piled randomly in a bin is a tough job for a human, and an even tougher one to automate.

For Fonderia di Torbole S.r.l. this was the bottleneck in full automation of brake discs handling. Integrator Tiesse Robot S.p.a. (hturned to Photoneo 3D vision for a solution that could deliver both speed and reliability.

Our PhoXi 3D Scanner XL, paired with the intelligence of Bin Picking Studio, now guides a Kawasaki Robotics robot to flawlessly execute the task with a cycle time under 45 seconds. The system handles everything - from finding the part to planning a collision-free path.

How do you make a robot flexible enough to pick something it has never seen before? 🤖

Instead of relying on a single scan, our vision system takes a simultaneous multi-view approach.

🔴🔵 Using both Red and Blue Laser 3D sensors, we capture the bin from multiple perspectives at once.

What does this mean in practice?
