Genuin FS 3 MK 2 a Trieste

sono un’appassionato audiofilo da circa 30 anni, non so se sia un difetto o un pregio ma ad essere onesto credo che la nostra passione sia parallela a quella della musica, ma più specifica verso l’hifi e tutto il mondo che l’alimenta.

Perché ho scelto Blumenhofer?

Le ho scoperte per puro caso.
In casa ho posseduto vari diffusori di moltissime case produttrici, Inglesi, Italiane, Francesi, Americane, Singapore, e sì, ne ho avute parecchie.

Ho sempre nutrito una forte curiosità per diffusori a tromba, ma le occasioni nelle quali avevo approcciato un ascolto, si erano dimostrate deludenti, anzi, direi “invadenti”!

Pur non soddisfatto dei primi contatti, ho mantenuto una forte curiosità verso questa particolare filosofia, sino a che, un paio d’anni fa, nel mezzo di cammin dell’Istriana via, mi ritrovai entro una taverna oscura! Eh sì, proprio in una taverna, quella del distributore Blumenhofer sloveno, e a suonare c’erano le Big Fun 17 ed una coppia di Genuin 3 MKII.
Confesso che con le Genuin fu amore a primo ascolto, nessuna fatica d’ascolto, grandissima scena sonora, basso poderoso e velocissimo!

Non ci pensai poi molto, nemmeno volli provarle tra le mie mura, quel diffusore doveva essere mio!!

Qualche mese dopo, fu così.

The Rockna Wavelight audiophile music Server – or the WLS – is your perfect source partner for Wavelight/Wavedream dacs, or just any dac, especially if equipped with a I2S input. In adition the I2S output, AES/EBU, SPDIF and optical output (Toslink) are available.

FUNCTIONS AND OUTPUTS

WLS resolves a few important aspects of a modern audio setup. It virtually eliminates the need for a computer holding your core server; will eliminate the need for a strong CPU to perform PCM to DSD transcoding; and eliminate the need for a storage server. All these features are included into a sleek and stylish package, visually matching the Wavelight DAC.

INTERNAL STRUCTURE

The WLS combines a few key elements for server-based digital audio playback: a linear power supply, a low TDP computing system running custom Linux, a highly efficient FPGA / DSP system for audio managament.

SOFTWARE AND USER SCENARIOS

The WLS will manage to transcode between formats on hardware level, without overloading the CPU.Therefore, it’s heat and RFI emissions will stay low, without bad influence on audio circuitry.

The WLS has the ability to let you choose from a variety of server software and audio servicesincluding Roon, MPD, LMS and so on. There are many use scenarios, the device can be used as core, or can be used as renderer or endpoint.

STORAGE

Wavelight Server was designed to host your music. From a basic 2TB to a maximum of 16TB of internal storage, it can keep internally thousands of music albums in high-quality, uncompressed format. Additionally, WLS has 3 USB ports, where you can connect external storage, and/or a NAS (Network Attached Storage) can be defined as music source for WLS.

CONTROL INTERFACE

The WLS has a powerful control interface that can be accessed via local browser or control app. It allows the owner to manage internal or attached storage, select active software or services, select upsampling or transcoding parameters, select I2S output setting for DAC compatibilty, rip cd’s to local drives, enable room correction etc.

WLS is fully upgradable and future-proof. Both operating system with services and FPGA (audio hardware) can be easily updatable via internet.

First, the Moonriver 404 is surprisingly solid and heavy (circa 28 pounds). To me, that indicates that the power-supply components, such as transformers, capacitor banks, and bus bars, are hefty. Not considering the optional modules, the Moonriver 404 has five separate power supplies.
In addition to the usual Power button and Source-selection and Volume controls, the Moonriver 404 has a Mono/Stereo switch, a center-detented Balance control k**b, an Output light and a Source light (both on one dimming switch), and a Tape Monitor control k**b. It appears that the Source selection is actuated by relays. In addition to the Tape Monitor loop, there are two sets of preamplifier outputs.
Inextricably intertwined with the thoughtfulness of the design (or, at least, that seems to be the case to me), is that Moonriver, consciously or unconsciously, in terms of the "Functional Æsthetic," went "Forward, to the Past." By providing so many hard-wired k**bs and switches, Moonriver turned their backs on the "modern" ideas of controlling an audio component by means of a touch screen, or a single, rotate-and-push, k**b.
While each of the four pairs of loudspeakers (of course) sounded rather dissimilar as one would expect (JBL and Chartwell, for instance); on all the loudspeakers, certain performance characteristics of the Moonriver 404 were consistent. I have already noted that it sounded more powerful than 50 Watts. It was also very dynamic, from the smallest gradations of chamber music, to large-scale orchestral works.
However, I think that the most important characteristic is the coherence of the sound. I don't want to use the word "smoothness," because that might give the impression of rounded-off highs. The highs are not rounded off. And that's certainly not what the designer intended, because the small script word "fågelsång" on the front panel means "birdsong."
There is a very organic "togetherness" to the sound. Both in the time domain, and in the frequency domain.
After one of the listening parties, one participant remarked that it was a true measure of how great an audio product the Moonriver 404 is, that nobody really had any comments to make about it. They just listened to it, and enjoyed the music.

To sum up: Highest Recommendation.
