We’re proud to see our work featured in Finance magazine and even prouder to see the value of the FRIDA project recognised by those who use it every day.

In the article (author: Dare Hribersek), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Iztok Lebar Bajec (University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Computer and Information Science) explains why a modular containerized data center was the right choice for FRIDA:

“The decision to use a containerized data center was driven precisely by the need to dramatically shorten the time from contract award and concept design to final delivery. The container itself was manufactured by NTR Engineering. It arrived in Ljubljana as a fully integrated industrial facility—not as a collection of individual components to be assembled on the rooftop.”

June has been a remarkable month for us at the NTR engineering. Another national infrastructure project we had the privilege to contribute to has officially gone live. DARS and the Slovenian Infrastructure Agency (DRSI) have officially completed one of the country’s key digital mobility projects and opened the renovated Regional Traffic Control Centre in Dragomelj - a major step in the digital transformation of Slovenia’s road infrastructure.
The project digitalised motorway infrastructure in the wider Ljubljana area and introduced advanced traffic management technologies, including dynamic traffic signalling, intelligent detection systems, video surveillance, weather monitoring and real-time operational control. For the first time, DARS, the national traffic management platform and traffic information services are now connected through a shared technological environment, enabling more coordinated traffic management across Slovenia’s road and motorway network.
We are proud that after a succesful launch Regional Traffic Control Centre in Maribor in April, NTR engineering is again a part of the story, contributing to the infrastructure that powers and supports some of the country’s most important strategic and mission-critical environments. Yesterday marked an important milestone for NTR Engineering and for Slovenia’s AI and research ecosystem. At the Fakulteta za računalništvo in informatiko (Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana, UL FRI), the new high-performance data center FRIDA was officially launched, opening a new chapter for advanced research, AI development and collaboration between academia and industry.
The opening brought together more than 150 representatives from academia and business. As highlighted by Assoc. Prof. Mojca Ciglarič, Dean of UL FRI, FRIDA is more than infrastructure: it is a platform that connects cutting-edge research with real-world innovation and creates new opportunities for collaboration between science, industry and society.
Purpose-built for AI workloads, machine learning, large language models, scientific computing and advanced data processing, FRIDA represents the most powerful AI-oriented computing infrastructure in Slovenia today. Designed and built by NTR as a modular hybrid data center, FRIDA combines high-performance computing with future-ready architecture, enabling rapid deployment, scalability and the advanced cooling technologies required by modern AI environments.

We are proud to have contributed our knowledge and engineering to infrastructure that will help shape the next generation of Slovenian research and innovation. For all of us at the NTR Engineering, this project is a proof that world-class digital infrastructure can be designed and delivered with Slovenian engineering expertise.
