Shaping Europe’s HPC and AI future together

Today, Bull officially opened its new production building in Angers, France, dedicated to the next generation of supercomputers and AI infrastructure. NTR’s Managing Director Primož Mahorič and Technical Director Boštjan Lavuger were among the invited guests, reflecting the long-standing partnership between Bull and NTR. Our cooperation has already proved its strength on a number of demanding HPC projects, most recently on PERUN, Slovakia’s new national supercomputer, where NTR designed and delivered the modular data centre infrastructure housing Bull’s high-performance computing technology.

Projects of this scale are built on more than technology. They depend on close cooperation, trust and the ability of different teams to combine their expertise into one reliable solution. Events such as today’s inauguration are therefore also an important opportunity to strengthen relationships, exchange ideas and discuss the challenges that will define the next generation of HPC and AI infrastructure.

Step inside Slovenia’s world of supercomputing
and learn what it takes behind the servers to make it all possible!

On 15 and 16 October, Slovenian supercomputing centres will open their doors as part of the NCC SLING Open Days and Exascale Computing Day 2026, offering a closer look at the infrastructure behind today’s most demanding scientific, HPC and AI workloads. We are particularly pleased that two centres featured in this year’s Open Days — EuroHPC Vega and FRIDA — carry the NTR engineering signature.

Over the years, our engineering has supported a growing number of supercomputing environments in Slovenia and abroad: Maister at the University of Maribor, EuroHPC Vega at IZUM, the DHMZ supercomputing infrastructure in Zagreb, FRIDA at the University of Ljubljana, PERUN at the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and the new Arnes Data Centre in Maribor. These projects have given us extensive hands-on expertise in one of the key engineering challenges of the AI era: creating infrastructure capable of supporting extremely high computing densities reliably and efficiently. From high-capacity power distribution and redundancy to direct liquid cooling, RDHx, CDU integration, hybrid cooling architectures, heat recovery and advanced monitoring, we design the physical infrastructure that enables modern HPC, GPU and AI systems to perform at their full potential. To perform at their full potential, Vega alone operates with a peak IT power of up to 830 kW, while NTR’s cooling concept keeps cooling power consumption below 50 kW year-round and achieves an annual PUE below 1.06.

Building on this experience and closely tracking developments in the field, NTR stays at the forefront of supercomputing and AI infrastructure, continuously integrating the latest technologies into solutions engineered for what comes next.

MODULAR DATA CENTRES: SPEED, CONTROL AND SCALABILITY IN ONE CISTOM ENGINEERED SOLUTION

FRIDA, UNIVERSITY OF LJUBLJANA – FACULTY OF COMPUTER AND INFORMATION SCIENCE: A modular hybrid data centre for demanding AI and HPC workloads, installed on a spatially constrained rooftop. Air and liquid cooling support high-density GPU infrastructure and future increases in liquid-cooled loads. Delivered turnkey in less than six months.

Good news is coming thick and fast! Yesterday, we shared the news that NTR Engineering had been recognised among Slovenia’s 100 most promising companies for global growth. Today, we have another major milestone to celebrate!

Mission accomplished:

on 31 August, Arnes officially took over its new Data Centre in Maribor, marking the successful completion of a major new piece of Slovenia’s digital infrastructure for open science, research and AI.

The centre has been designed to provide secure, long-term storage for research data, advanced computing infrastructure and additional capacity for Slovenia’s research institutions. It will also become home to the country’s new AI-optimised supercomputer and serve as a key infrastructure pillar of the Slovenian AI Factory.

More computing power. More capacity to store, process and protect data. More opportunities for Slovenian researchers to develop, collaborate and compete internationally.

For NTR Engineering, this handover marks the completion of an important and technically demanding project. Together with our project partners Energovat, Advant and Pomgrad, we are proud to have contributed our expertise to infrastructure that will support Slovenia’s scientific, technological and digital development for years to come.
