“We had a plan. Then the shift started, and the reality of absenteeism kicked in.”

On paper, the production plan looks solid, but in reality, one absence, one missing skill, or one change on the shop floor can throw everything off.

That is why more manufacturers are starting to think differently.

Not by asking, “How do we fit people into the plan?”

But by asking, “How do we build the plan around the workforce we actually have?”

We call this people-first production planning.

It is a simple shift in logic, but it changes a lot:

❓ What happens when one production step is delayed?

That’s why production planning needs to reflect the real sequence of operations.

With the latest update in Qlector LEAP, we upgraded the existing planning logic with sequential planning. The system now checks dependencies between operations, verifies the completion status of production phases, and also takes related orders and input materials into account.

For manufacturers, this means:

• more realistic production timelines
• better feasibility assessment
• faster conflict detection
• more efficient scheduling

And most importantly, production plans become much closer to what actually happens on the shop floor.

𝐈𝐬 𝐀𝐈 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐲𝐩𝐞? 𝐘𝐞𝐬 – 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭!

That was probably the strongest feeling after the Smart Manufacturing World Summit in Stuttgart, where our CRO, Ognjen Backović, joined discussions with industrial leaders and technology experts.

The most compelling examples didn’t talk about “AI transformation” in abstract terms. They focused on real operational problems, constraints, and measurable results. Less buzzwords. More reality.

A few themes kept coming up:

𝐀𝐈 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚, not on assumptions, static spreadsheets, or disconnected systems. Or better said, the quality of the foundation matters more than the sophistication of the model.

𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞, not just an HR topic. Manufacturers need better visibility into who can do what, where capability gaps exist, and how to build more resilient operations around that reality.

𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐈 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐰 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭, but the message was clear here too: these systems only become useful when they sit on top of a strong operational model of the business. Without that, they risk becoming just another black box.

Overall, the direction feels clear. The manufacturers who will get the most value from AI will be the ones who combine solid data, the right use cases, and a disciplined path to measurable outcomes, rather than chasing the most advanced models first.
