Another satisfied customer with he’s new Finch Audio Shop 3-way horn speakers installed. This gentleman has always dreamed of owning a pair of horn speakers - we built, delivered, and made he’s dream come true today.

Covering the low frequencies from 30Hz to 500Hz is a large 140 litre mahogany veneered cabinet mated with a 15 inch KCS S-1535 woofer. A 17 by 10 inch S-201 horn is used for the mids section, features the KCS S-801 2 inch exit compression driver with 4 inch titanium diaphragm crossed from 500Hz upwards. And for upper frequencies delivery, seasoned speaker builders would easily recognise this one, the famed cat-eye tweeter JBL 076.

No expense was spared on the dividing network or crossover, using some of the best components from Mundorf and Jantzen, including the Alumen-Z, a pure aluminium foil capacitor for the 076 crossover at 12,000Hz. Tinned copper cables, Belden 9497 are used throughout the build, humble in terms of looks and cost, a noble in performance, matching with this speaker’s musical caliber.

A visit to Hi-End Coffee, an “audiophile” cafe in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. The owner has an interesting mix of vintage and modern music equipment setup here, from ch precision power amps to leak tube preamps, a pair of kharma exquisite to jbl hartsfield speakers, plus couple of reel to reels in the mix. Sipping a cà phê sữa đá or Vietnamese iced milk coffee here on a lazy afternoon, lovely.

Drivers for the vintage Kenwood project. Designed and manufactured in China by 克荷特, solid built cast aluminium frame, 93db sensitivity and capable of going as low as 45hz. Don’t you think the white cone and bronze phase plugs keeps that vintage yet classy look to older speakers?

Vintage Kenwood speakers teardown for restomod project. The KL-3090 features a 8 inch woofer and 6 inch horn, in two way design with the woofer running at full range, combining the horn at 6400hz with a second order high pass filter. Will probably be applying a similar approach for this project, we’ll see how it goes. Stay tuned for more updates
