CAT7 cables are ISO-standard, but after many service calls to homes with so-called CAT7 installations, I’ve seen wide variations across manufacturers. Many even use connectors that deviate from the TIA-568 standard, which often leads to poor terminations and additional connectivity issues.

TIA-568 CAT8, meanwhile, was largely superseded by fibre technology before it ever reached true mass adoption. Today, the market is flooded with many so-called CAT8 cables that are ISO-spec knock-offs rather than true compliant products.

Many people consider four-connector topology a rule that mustn’t be broken: “We can only have four connectors in a channel.” But is that really true?

This End-user definitely hired a “champion” electrician, all 10 out of 10 data points failed. Every type of bad termination you can imagine was present: cross-links, crossed cables, bad connections, and failed crimping.

We had to completely rework every point, redo all terminations, and reconfigure the entire network. After repairs, add a 10GbE network switch, setup with the BE805 Archer router, 10GbE Ethernet backhaul is now working perfectly.

Good thing the end-user engaged us. Otherwise, they would have been stuck for years living with a house full of barely functional network points. No matter how many times they complain about the ISP or switch providers, nothing would have improved with wiring this badly done.

P.S. Blessing is they didn't use CCA cables. Use not premium brand cable but at least is full copper.

End-user wanted to clear and reorganise their cluttered DB closet in preparation for an upcoming 10Gbps fibre upgrade. They requested a solution that would allow their modem and huge router to be relocated out of the DB area.

I proposed extending the fibre termination point to the living hall, allowing the modem and router to be positioned there instead, freeing up space in the DB closet.

The initial plan was to use the existing SCV or data-point conduits to pull a new SC fibre cable to the hall, but both conduits were found to be severely choked and unusable. As an alternative, the cable was route through the ceiling light cornices to the TV console.

End-user operates his business in a two-storey colonial shop house and has been experiencing very poor WiFi performance since moving in years ago. Their in-house IT team attempted to fix the issue by adding multiple mesh nodes, but the problem persisted. Even upgrading their Singtel fibre plan to a higher tier did not improve the situation. Although several data points were available, none were functional.

The end-user requested an on-site consultation to find a solution without installing new cabling. After almost 4 hours of cable tracing, I located the missing junction point and designed a proper Ethernet backhaul network for their existing Deco mesh system.

Once the backhaul was implemented and configured, WiFi coverage across both floors was tested and confirmed to be stable and performing well.

The full job took a total of 11 hours, working from 6pm until 5am, to ensure minimal disruption to their operations. The next day, the business operated as usual in a fully WiFi-enabled environment.

End-user required a larger office and relocated to a former data center. The premises were handed over as-is, with existing tables, rooms, and numerous CAT6 data points. However, most of the cabling had been cut off at the outlets and left unterminated in the server room.

Since the end-user only needed reliable WiFi for daily operations, I proposed a MyRepublic SME Fibre solution paired with an Omada networking setup, designed with redundancy and scalability for future expansion.

The entire project required approximately 15 hours to trace, identify, and reconnect all necessary cabling, completed over two on-site visits to finalise and stabilise the full network setup.
