We have BIG news to share! 🎉

SmartPesa is now part of the MYPINPAD group, putting us in an even better position to serve our customers internationally.

The combined entity will operate under the MYPINPAD brand as of 19th April 2022.

The deal positions MYPINPAD as the leading global provider in the rapidly expanding mobile payments acceptance market. The combined entity expects to double its existing footprint in APAC, LATAM, and EMEA, and target North America in 2022 and beyond.

With transaction volumes increasing at breakneck speed, scaling the technology is not enough to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage.

Acquirers need to scale every part of the rollout – from the initial onboarding and approvals, to marketing outreach, reconciliations and service follow-ups. Complexity increases with the involvement of multiple stakeholders internally and externally, with varying demands according to local practices / languages.

The end goal should be to have merchants up and running within an hour of registration, and every part of the workflow digitized, automated and paperless.

Our clients increasingly rely on operational data to make critical business decisions. The need to provide a unified data source across teams means many are choosing to push data onto our platform and adopting single sources of truth (SSOT) through API integrations.

Retail spending over the holiday season increased 8.5% y-o-y and online sales grew 11% to record levels in the US according to Mastercard's SpendingPulse report. Ecommerce sales continued to increase its share, making up 20.9% of total sales.

Growth at SmartPesa was even higher:
- December transaction volume was double that of prior months
- Overall volume was up fourfold y-o-y

Retailers are bracing themselves for the aftermath — Gift returns, which could be as high as 40% for some retailers. While costly, the ease of return is an integral part of the experience and a payments platform that provides unified statements helps support easy reconciliation across channels.



Returns are the cost of doing business for retailers. This year retailers can expect even more holiday returns than last and processing those returns to cost more too.
